There was caste discrimination of the worst kind. But I do not think the mahars joined the East India Co. army as an act of rebellion against caste discrimination. The mahars had joined simply to earn a living in the first place. The present day politicians out of their greed for power and pelf are fomenting troubles every where in the name of democracy, fighting injustice and actually there interested with none.
Do not say Brahminical - it is forward class .We are all well educated and do not depend on free booting .We spend our life time educating and making children Talented , Merit and skills development .In fact all our life saving go in the process .more often than the elite defined by Government for OBC , many of them are not even getting 50 % of that . Thanks to Children we get support from them .they are trying to contribute and make a living not eating at others costs . Read what has happened in the last 10 years or twenty years is much more than the whole time of humanity .Read Alvin Toflers book in 1960 ,The Third Riegh if I am not mistaken .If you are going to quib about what happened before 500 years or more ,you will remain there only .Politicians have played their dirty games for votes . This nonsense has gone too far in this country -see the African Americans they are so well off -well educated and holding good jobs and is still work in process - if you make people lazy , unskilled and no merit but still feed them they willNEVER EVER CHANGE

u mean to say all brahmin are cheaters and all Dalits are honest? what kind of Bizzarre logic is that? I do believe Brahmin by quality anbd hence India should have a casteless society and we should do away with caste based reservation. Any reservation to be on basisi of economic criteria. This is wishful thinking as mamta banerjee,Jignesh mewani,prakash karat,prakash ambedkar.Praveen togadia lalu ,mulayam and mayawati wont let that happen. And most of the Indians danceto their tunes. Wake up and dont be a puppet on the strings of politicians. Politicians only care for one caste the political caste.

The author only said THEY and rediff generously INTERPRETED as BRANHMINICAL RESURGENCE. And throughout this so called interview, you see many () which were inserted purposely to create a divide.
May be some 1000 years ago, during Peshwa times Brahmins may have wielded power.
Modern times ( even before independence), Brahmins never were in position of power. Even given that positive, they only did good things to the society .
Talking rubbish about things like BRAHMINICAL RESUURGENCE, the so called intellectual hinted that these interviews , unrest and propagada have veen orchestrated.

This idea tha that the priest class oppressed the others comes from Europe. The priests there had a firm hold on the common people because they wanted to justify their misdoings in the name of God. No such issues with India. The braaaamhans were teachers and did not weild any power for oppression. They were respected by all for their simple life style and knowledge they had gave their word the power. It was all started by that so called saint in Goa (now lying in a coffin in a church). He has written letters to the church to demonise the braaaahmans so that their hold over the society is reduced and he can plan his connnversionsss.
