These kind of calamities occur in cycles during the course of decades or centuries. In 1924 it was more of a nature friendly situation, still the foods were devastating. Kerala is a small State and over populated. So the impace of such disasters will appear to be more severe.
"Nature has defeated us'No Nature of Man has defeated us .Man's nature is to fail doing the simple things and then expect miracles.Aug.1st2018 news report in a paper was the "State clueless on the impact of dam shutter opening on the Public and on how much cropped and farm lands would be submerged.State has no record of illegal encroachment on riparian area .Aug 1st Aug 11 th was long enough time to get to grips. Then do not respect the international norms like right of first user etc.Keep crying Dam will break when a similar dam in Pechiparai ,also built in British days is not feared..Kerala should have been careful first not to allow encroachment in riparian areas or should have given these taluks to Tamilnadu in 1956 itself when the state reorganization was done on linguistic basis-these taluks were once part of Pandya kingdom- as these devikulam and peermedu where the dam is those is in those taluks.R.PONNAMBALAM
The greedy people destroy the path of the "Pancha Boothams" and create hurdles on its way, the nature keeps going on its route...It is not created to destroy or defeat lives....It is human lives that create hurdles and hence the destruction of the lives on the path of nature...
Injustices in the society increasing day by day 1. Killing animals for food
2. Corruption of money
3. Illegal contact outside marriage
4. Ego & Jealosy
5. Cutting trees and destroying nature
If the above injustice are stopped all the natural calamities will stop. But people never realise, even in some places still people are eating non-veg among this misery!
Not Nature, This is a Man-made Disaster by present CPI led Govt, Please dont blame nature....dams were opened late, infact very late till water was filled till brim....common man should know the real culprits.
Kerala is going through a man-made calamity. The impact should have been limited if the Gadgil committee report, aimed at protecting ecologically-fragile mountain ranges, was implemented. A lot of unauthorised encroachments have taken place in our forest area. Because the mountain slopes are cut and encroached upon, the natural support land has is lost and due to this landslides have occurred in many areas. The other factor is deforestation as well as large amount of construction in catchment areas. Filling up of ponds and lakes as well as huge paddy tracts for construction activities. This disaster was a man made disaster
