For an outsider all Gujaratis are banias.Soldiering is not generally out of patriotism .For many it is bread and butter.Soldiering also has that fatal attraction -the yearning to emulate someone who died for one's country, particularly if the martyr was from one's own kin.A friend of mine fell to the bullet of a militant in late nineties. His son, despite advice from his kin not to join the army, followed his father's footsteps and is serving in the valley now.
Its bordering on shame to admit that you contribute the least to protect our country. And to say in such a justified manner is doubly shameful. No wonder politicians from there are also filled with hot gas...with no matter

It is a bluff by Sahani, the follower of Hati (elephant). Do not spread such lies. Else give us the link to substantiate your comments.
I know this is for a support of your party....he he he..shame on you..and your paid article writers....and the commentors who are paid to support you when you poo also....
I agree with Akarbhai when he says 'Gujratis need not be ashamed of a lack of martial tradition because they serve the country in many other equally valuable ways'. But I take strong exception to his calling Gandhiji as the greatest martyr. I, AND MANY OTHERS IN THE COUNTRY, WILL ETERNALLY REMEMBER HIM AS THE PRIME ARCHITECT OF THE SUICIDAL POLICY OF MINORITY APPEASEMENT WHICH RESULTED IN CREATION OF PAKISTAN. We are suffering the consequences of this policy, even today. So I say, Akarbhai, you Gujratis are dear to us, the rest of Indians, as you guys are (martial tradition or no martial tradition). We agree that you are making equally great contribution in other fields. But when talking of icons I would rather refer to The Great Sardar Vallabbhbhai the integrator of India as it stands today.
You are absolutely right. Gujarat has provided some of the greatest men for the country, the latest being our prime minister Narendra Modi. I spent around 13 years in Gujarat and I did my graduation and post graduation from there. And I had many Gujarati friends over there. I have great admirations for Gujarat and Gujaratis.
There was a question in UPSC examination sometimes in 1967 or 68.It read "THE HISTORY OF INDIA IS THE HISTORY OF INVASIONS ON INDIA' DISCUSS: WE HAVE NEVER WON A WAR.OUR HISTORY IS THE HISTORY OF OUR DEFEATS. NOBODY CAN FEEL PROUD ABOUT OUR ,HIS OR OTHER'S MARTIAL SKILL RECORD. THERE WAS AN ARTICLE IN THE HINDUSTAN STANDARD SOMETIMES IN 1974-74 OR SO ON THIS "MARTIAL --- "BUSINESS.I DON'T WRITE IT A SENTENCE FROM THAT. .IT DROVE THE NAIL STRAIGHT ON ONE'S HEAD.NEVER DECRY OTHERS.R.PONNAMBALAM
