Amarthya sen is of course a Modi hater and BJP hater. your intellect will not tell you that a popularly elected PM stays for 5 years? you so called intellectuals always have contrary view against popular view. its in fact has become a fashion. its your right to have your opinion but can you spill venom on PM on the name of freedom of expression. A stature Amarthya sen should be doubly careful while expressing his views in public as he is a popular figure among some section of this society. so dont try to defend him. put your point across.

I fully endorse the view of Muthy. Inspite of thousands of Harvadists being present including Amatyasen, how many (other than Dr Rajan) predicted the USA's Housing bubble in America which in retrospect could be explained by common sense. These are practical failures from which these Sens earns their postmortem theories. Or how many other economic problems could they avert in modern times. Economics have proven to be statistical historians in practice. One bold political decision by leadership was needed here, you make the theory later. After all historically Educationists doesnot neccessarily be good political leaders. Keeping the stature of the national leader of a nation in mind Sen should have critisized Modi. Who doen't know He is a Modi hater right during the National election days.

Another Intellectual Nonsense!
by Venkatesa Prabhu on Mar 10, 2017 06:13 AM  | Hide replies

If the poor suffered and yet will vote Modi to power [something we will see on 11/3], then what will this intellectual giant have to say? True, every life is precious, can this gent say that the UPA policies did NOT cause any loss of lives? Probably they looted the nation enough to pass on currencies in good number which kept the people in good humour and every body was wanting to live!!! Congress, Trinamool and every other opposition party is shouting the shrillest, because all their unaccounted monies were rendered worthless with just one act. The poor and the middle class have borne it with great fortitude, seeing it as an act of courage and welfare for the nation.

Hardwork vs Harvard
by sooresh ramdas on Mar 10, 2017 04:29 AM  | Hide replies

Ignorance is bliss and half knowledge is dangerous. Just because you have been to Harvard or are there now does not qualify you as either intellectual or even plain intelligent. Amartya Sen is no target of the PM; it was the former FM / HM Chidambaram also an alumni who famously said that what Modi knows about the economy would fit on the back of a postage stamp. That is what this comment from the PM was about.

The PM has a multifaceted job, just like all humans do. he is also an MP, a party worker and a star campaigner. each of these roles demand a different language, idiom, style and delivery. Modiji is certainly aware of this. it is laughable when intellectual midgets try to preach to Modiji about his job, responsibilities, behavior, sartorial style ...... Criticise by all means the substance, policies etc don't try to teach him on how to act, behave or talk in or outside parliament. very few people in Indian politics over the last 70 years can match his sensitivity, awareness, understanding and total commitment / dedication to and of India. No leader has withstood the relentless, nasty, baseless, below belt attacks and near physical assaults that Modiji has faced over the last 15 years. A lesser man would have turned cynical or become insane.

# ramdas : You are absolutely right. It is Mr Palaniappan Chidambaram that was targeted by Mr Modi for his criticism of the DeMo. Mr Prateek Kanwal as also several of the others in India do admire Harvard for what it is ... but to take it out on him with an OPEN LETTER and all that is a little too childish. Incidentally, where were all these luminaries during the misrule of a decade by UPA I & UPA II. MMS, HM, Industry Minister, Commerce Minister, and several others made enough nonsensical comments during the decade. There was a stupefying silence then!

Harvard University 500 years Old
by niladri mohanty on Mar 10, 2017 04:28 AM

I did not read the interview fully, have downloaded it to read at leisure. Declaration of independence on 4 July 1776. The USA as a country is only less than 300 years old and Harvard University is existing for 500 years! Why such wisdom is being fed to us?

Dull brain need Harvard to get educated.
by Biswajyoti Borkakoty on Mar 10, 2017 12:13 AM

Your brain is not required in India. All economist give contradictory views. They recommend austerity drives when actually you should be spending. India needed the demonetization drive to clean the system and Make future transactions more transparent.

PM is True in his statement
by pusarla kumar on Mar 09, 2017 11:21 PM

When some one acknowledge some thing as good even after seeing the outcome and saying current polices are wrong (they might be worng no denial) looses credibility .. Without Hard work people can not enter Harvard and even after entering Harvard if they don't do hardwork then soon they will fail. So Hardwork is More powerful than Harvard. There is no wrong in this statement.
