Prabhu offers to quit in wake of mishaps, PM asks him to 'wait'
by jayaram putisari on Aug 23, 2017 08:35 PM

I think railway minister should not step down immediately. He must initiate proper inquiry and identify the systemic failure or the failure on the part of officials for accidents.
We must give highest priority to safety in the operation in railways. It is so critical that any lapse would be amounting to slaughtering innocent lives.
I am not against accepting moral responsibility and resigning by top officials and the minister for any mishap or serious deficiency. But even more important is the inquiry into the lapses and identifying culprits to ascertain if any dereliction of duty had taken place. If the official or the minister is likely to be a hindrance in finding out the truth they may be removed. But it is unlikely if an independent organisation is entrusted with the task of inquiry and auditing works.
If human lives are not valued the entire system will lose its credibility. Then we cannot have any meaningful progress or modernization.
In this era of standardisation the tractions and the rolling stocks can be continuously monitored by individual trains as well for any deviations in the structure, functioning etc. We need to automise the safety features with necessary backup by manual interventions etc.
Anyway, hope any accidents etc will act as eye-opener and a great lesson for fool proofing the system for better operation and safety in the future.
Also we should see that we stand by those who perished or injured and they are amply compensated for the lapse.

Enough is enough. Rail Minister has been proved himself incompetent time and again. He must quit immediately. An efficient and technically knowledgeable person like Mr. Tathagata Ray should become the Railway Minister.

Old Tracks

Majority of the Railway tracks and railway bridges were built by British period and is more than 70 yrs old. Earlier govt. did not bother to upgrade the railways. It is obvious accidents increases as it grows older. Congress was in power enjoyed all these years without bother to improve the system, now making someone scapegoat.

Train Accidents
by Ashwin on Aug 23, 2017 08:23 PM

If Prabhu resigns or sacked, can any one guarantee no train accidents & how long? How many times Ministers resigned during Congress rule when train accidents occurred? If anyone can guarantee, I will force, single handedly Modiji to sack Prabhu and appoint a person who will guarantee no train accidents. But what if train accidents occur even after new Minister takes over? You must know that terrorists are at work all over the Country and most likely supported some of the Political parties who have lost & waiting for power.
