Why I would not support a ban on meat
by VENKATESHPRASAD IYER on Apr 04, 2017 04:14 PM  | Hide replies

I salute Ms.Sunita Narain for putting things in proper perspective. She is erudite, crisp in her presentation of facts and has compassion in all her writings. There are whole communities which have to depend on leather from dead cattle. The tanning industry across states will be finished. The Kolhapuri chappal industry will be finished. As it is Government is not able to create jobs for people and here you are destroying whole industries for an ideal which the Government may or may not be able to fulfill - Protection fo the Cow. What about the rampant malnutrition prevailing in our country and the protein deficiency. The more protein rich the diet the less the number of children. protein acts as a natural family planning agent. Do all you can to protect the cow but to not allow dead cow's cadaver for tanning is not right. One has no right to destroy livelihoods of thousands in this country because your religious beliefs do not permit cow slaughter. There will be widespread unrest in society and children will die of malnutrition. A bitter summer of discontent is in store ahead.

You are very correct, but unfortunately in the mobocracy we live in, people will kill human beings to protect cows. Apparently this is what their Gods have taught them.

Beta, what you are saying is no different from the conflict between religion and science; which has been going on for many centuries.

Your community is very careful not to kill even insects, but doesn't think twice before sucking the life out of human beings. Don't even talk about pain. It rhymes with your name.

Dear Mr. Mohanta,
As we have carinorous and omnivorous animals in the world. the same category applies with human being also,, hope this will release bit of your confusion.. I am not saying being carnivours is good but, that is the cycle which is being followed since the primitive age..

It is not necessary that every human being has the same values as you have. If you want to ban killing animals ban all animals not selectively what the "majority community" thinks as holy.

Meat
by Dams on Apr 04, 2017 02:33 PM

All my dear friends.. Please note I also don't eat meat but the thing is for some people of certain states it's a staple diet for them.. The same way Dal and chaval for North Indians.. So certainly people who are having it since their childhood consider this as their staple diet, hence they will surely object it.. They are not wrong my dear friends..
