Simple ... because politicians use religion as the means to consolidate their position.
What a silly question is this? Had he changed the names of Jahangir or Shahajahan you would have asked the same question as, why only them why not Aurangzeb? And what is the harm in replacing the name with Dr. A.P.J.? Does the author find some heroism in Aurangzeb? that he is trying to glorify him? Shouldn't he be happy that, Dr.Kalam who was one of the best scientist of India is the pride of his community than Aurangzeb? and it would be more sensible to give his name?
I have seen many comments from historians that can we change name of other roads named of Jahangir, Shajan et al. I am sure, there will be public pressure to change them when we have some one from Muslim raises up to the level of Abul Kalam, we can think about it. We need not hurry now.

You are right. The invaders deserve to be treated with disdain they deserve starting from the most cruel of the lot. This kind of articles were expected to pour though little late due to the road being named after a nationalist president who incidentally was a muslim
