FOREST AREA
by ashish nazar on Jun 04, 2015 01:01 PM

Something is wrong in above statistic. Though I can not say about whole India and not even whole Maharashtra, but since I,m living in Chandrapur city and wardha city since last 20 years and regular visitor to forest I havent seen any shrinking of forest area. Rather more plantation schemes are at site.
Both the cities have tiger sancturies and forest.
The report is somewhat looks to be cooked up.
For any new sanctury to happen, a dedicated area has to be alloted. when santuaries came up, how it is possible that area shrunk. No sanctuary in my notice was bifurgated to increase the no.

Indians are Real Hypocrites

On the one hand we have Environmental Laws being Amended to suit Ruling parties every now and then.

Forest Department itself is Corrupt - Since it is also a Government Department and we cannot expect much from them.

NGO's and Green champions can hardly do anything but protest in vain.

Everyone wants Forest Timber, Wild Animal's Flesh, Bones and Furs - Either for Food, Medicine or for Trophies at homes. All of us need water and clean air to breathe.

But Nobody raises a voice when Temperatures are highly increasing from the past 30 plus years and we have no counter balance mechanism to control Environmental degradation and pollution.

Others factors-
If you invite companies for Make in India; they will demand huge spaces, that will eat large chunks of lands from fields/forests
If you dream of giving every household power 24x7, that will require coal to be dug out in huge amounts from every possible region- most of which are in forests
If concrete jungle goes on increasing unabated without any long term vision, it will need huge amounts of wood for houses/flats, that can come only from forests

Population of India has increased by 210,000,000 from 2000 to 2013 i.e. about 44257 EVERYDAY despite all natural calamities. These will need space that will come from agricultural fields of natural parks unless these is severely strong administrative control to save these areas, which I don't see anybody having guts to do...
