Study circles in IIT Madras
by R Chakravarti on Jun 02, 2015 09:22 AM  | Hide replies

The authorities ought to treat all the groups mentioned equally. Propagating hatred should be banned but it should not be a false charge. The functioning of the Institute should not be affected.

I hope there is some group that fights the Cult of the Green Card! Many IITians think there are too good for this country.

Dravidian idealogy
by Ramesh bharat on Jun 02, 2015 08:36 AM  | Hide replies

Dravidian idealogy is nothing but advocating hatred against brahmins...Periayar was a guys who was as anti-dalit as he was an anti-brahmin.. and many brahmins have worked for upliftment of the downtroden.. These naive fools glorify the very person who was against them.. today TN has become a rotten state..caste hatred, corruption , personality cult.. poor education standards, tasmac all these are directly the impact of periyar inspired politics.. Inspite of being in power for 50 years, they havent improved the education standards, but blame the brahmins.. they havent improved water infra , but blame kerala and karnataka

Well said. Why no one is talking about the 2.5% minority in TN among whom there were so many leaders who fought for the upliftment of these fellows. Periyaar was indeed a great social reformer. However his followers like Veeramani etc have only used his name to amass wealth and create trouble

The answer to the question posed in quotations in the title of this article is that "dissent" has to be expressed in a decent manner, using decent language. Personal attacks, obscenities, false personal accusations, defamatory (libellous, slanderous, etc.) statements against persons, institutions or political parties, etc. is not acceptable. Apparently, the APSC pamphlets and speeches contained all these.

Unreported incident.. once in chattisgarh a group criticized amendkar and his ideology.. what happened next you know .. 4 members of the group were found in hospitals with bruise and wounds. So lets not see thru the problem only with one lense. Rights to speak is meant for all, cannot be selective always

With 70% majority, still this country is not a hindu country .. The minorities, rediff, NDTV, India today should thank the hindus for their tolerance. Still most of the time they are criticized and bashed.

Ambedkar-Periyar Study Circle

when Periyar inspired Dravidar Kazham's supporters cut the thread across an old brahmin, and manhandled him, in Chennai a few weeks back, , Ambedkar-Periyar Study Circle did not say a word and keep quiet. now they got up when their interest is threatened. Periyar and Ambedker advocated true rational, scientific secularism. not the political variety.

This has been the behaviour of EV Ramasami Naicker's followers (including DK, DMK, and AIADMK when MGR was alive) for more than 65 years now. Chennai (Madras city) has been unsafe for Brahmans who are being oppressed and persecuted; the rest of Tamil Nadu (Madras State) is not very much better.

As expected many of the political parties , leftists etc. have jumped into the fray. They will vitiate the atmosphere. It is my fervent appeal to APSC or any other student body in IIT, please keep the IIT's atleast away from these dirty politicians. Please focus on your studies and think how best.you can serve yourself and the nation.

First raise voice to provide reservation only to those who are most downtrodden and living in BPL condition so that actual downtrodden is uplifted. Let us see your nationalism.

Reservation is not for economic upliftment alone. Some sections of the Indian society were subjected to generations of social, academic, economic, political oppression that they need help if they have to some how overcome this large gap that still exists in this society.

Misleading, reservation was only for dalits and deprived not for elite class. There are many in uppers who are below BPL,still are victim of this prejudiced thinking and system. We demand immediate ban on all those who are above BPL to provide any reservation on the basis of caste.
Our secular democracy to that extent is prejudiced and partial.

There is no reservation in India. Reservation is a word used by politicians to get votes. Indian reservation applies only to applications/posts below 10,000. Above 10k reservations given to all castes.

There is reservation in IAS, IPS,IIMS,IITs .. no one grudges it for SCs and STs.. but there are several communities who were never oppressed - many of them ruled India and yet they get reservation benefits simply because they are powerful and high in numbers
