All religious occasions, festivals and rituals have been hijacked by politicians for obvious reasons. Come festival, you could see hundreds of billboards, even on busy junctions, with ug1y r0wdies and local leaders along with faces of political bigwigs, wishing people on the occasion of that festival. Moreover, these r0wdy politicians take the lead in organizing the events, using their ill-gotten money, which they consider an investment for future elections. Not sure when this is going to stop, unless the administration strictly enforces the rules, even at the expense of becoming unpopular.

Easy solution – earplug.

Amazing that WHO report is mentioned regarding noise pollution during festivals. If some quirky person gets to decide what is good for us, imagine what would happen:
Only limited spectators will be allowed in football or cricket matches to limit noise level. They would be scared stiff in case they get ousted after cheering their teams.

We would have to pay extra to seat near speakers in multiplexes as volume will be kept at a minimum.

All the airports from cities would be closed and moved to locations away from humanity as well as wild life.

All crackers will be banned. So all celebrations at weddings, festivals, functions, match winnings, election winnings will be devoid of crackers.

Only a few cars will be allowed to be driven in the city roads as more cars would mean more noise pollution. Others will have to book a slot and wait their turn to drive a car in the city.

No cars will be allowed in the hilly areas and other tourist spots so that there are no disturbing noise effecting the environment and aesthetics of those areas.

The trains and EMUs will be banned as they cause so much noise.

Elections will be banned altogether as this is a very noisy affair.

Factories will be shutdown to minimize noise.

No new buildings will be allowed to be constructed.

Road rollers will not be allowed to be used.

really sad that you are comparing the nuisance caused by our festivals to the above examples. You need to get your thoughts in order before u start arguing.

In order to understand your thought about our festivals, it would be more interesting to know which of the examples of nuisance I cited above are very much acceptable and endearing to you.

I am very open to the fact that music to one’s ears may be noise to someone else’s. I will perfectly understand if you say that when other people whisper in the cinema hall, it is more annoying than the loud noise caused by election propaganda.

Loud speaker noise pollution in case of Azan or Ganapati which are causing inconvenience to general public should be curbed. Be religious but at your home plese don't force your religiosity on others

Not possible

Religion is a very sensitive topic in India and you cannot touch it. It is better to allow people to enjoy their festivals they want to. As Indians I believe we take pride that we are able to celebrate festivals of all religions in equal measure

And dirty up the whole place beyond recognition in the process !

At the Kumbh Mela a couple of years ago in the Sangam, nearly 8000 pit toilets were built on the banks of the Ganga in order to stop open defecation (that was the norm till then) around the place.

However, the rush of pilgrims was so horrendously heavy that, just a couple of weeks into the festival, each of the 8000 toilets began overflowing and they had to permanently close them for good !

Laws are already there
by Cynic on Jul 22, 2015 01:57 PM

As stated by the petitioner himself, the laws are there already. It is a matter of implementing them which is to be done by administration. The state police is incapable of executing the court order on its own and needs orders from state government which will never allow them to take action in case of religious issues. There are ample laws to necessitate prior permissions for any procession, religious or political. Similarly, why allow prayers on roads and other public places? That happens every week as compared to annually on case of Ganpati.

Reason for taking up this petition, however, is quick fame with lesser trouble as compared to taking up other issues related to other religions.

The man seems to be free of political affiliations.
But the reporter, in the end, was turning it against BJP or Hindu.
Getting into 'go to pakistan' stuff was avoidable.
we all want peaceful, pollution-free festivals. But if we are sincere, then avoid directing it against anybody. it will work.
