All religious occasions, festivals and rituals have been hijacked by politicians for obvious reasons. Come festival, you could see hundreds of billboards, even on busy junctions, with ug1y r0wdies and local leaders along with faces of political bigwigs, wishing people on the occasion of that festival. Moreover, these r0wdy politicians take the lead in organizing the events, using their ill-gotten money, which they consider an investment for future elections. Not sure when this is going to stop, unless the administration strictly enforces the rules, even at the expense of becoming unpopular.

We were much better when we were rule by other forces. Atleast people obeyed the law due to fear of law. But today our own people have become like monsters. :(

Unless we the middle class and lower middle class stop accepting the bull**it from religious and political leaders, we will never have a good quality of life for our self as well as for our children. We live in a constant fear of uncertainty coming from the political goonda raj and religious goonda raj. so either keep getting trampled upon generation after generation or raise our voice, the choice is ours alone...
Why do south Asians excel in destroying everything they have in the name of culture and religion. It is time they banned all religions functions on streets, especially in the metros. We have a penchant to convert all our festivals into an occasion where our civic sense and hygiene, and environmental concerns are thrown to the dogs. Loud noise, abundant alcohol and hooliganism are the hall marks of all hindu festival today. I am sure there are enough supporters of these celebrations in this forum..who will defend at any cost these depravations in the name of religion. Even the muslims and the so called backward classes have been infected with this disease of societal nuisance. When will all this come to an end. When will India see a change in its attitude.

very well said friend... religion is now a days a business to some and enjoyment to some with others assets.....the actual religion is somewhere dumped and its real meaning is unknown to the general public especially to the rising young and pubertic generation........
I remember seeing Ganpati and Dahi Handi in late 70\\\'s. They appeared to be spontaneous.Politics entered these spheres since mid eighties and now we are paying the price of this
