Confused
by Sandeep Mukherjee on Jul 17, 2015 07:56 AM  | Hide replies

I am a little confused! Which India is this guy talking about? The India which I live in, has seen no positive movements on the economic and strategic fronts under Modi. None at all.
Make in India is just a slogan. Modi's Govt, the judiciary and the NGOs, have together destroyed the core sector viz., coal, iron&steel, power, infrastructure. Without the core sector, there can't be a resurgence in manufacturing.
On the Indo Pakistan border and LOC, I can't remember the last time when there have been so many civilian casualties because of Pak firing and shelling over the last one year.
The credibility of the Indian Govt continues to be destroyed as a sovereign entity by judicial activism. First 2G then coal and now Rafale....ex post facto overturning of sovereign decisions and agreements by the courts, has spread the word that no investment is safe in India.
I see that this writer belongs to the Carnegie foundation. The role and raison de tre of these American think tanks have been excellently served by what is going on in India

lessons from the article
by rajul sharma on Jul 17, 2015 12:29 AM

the interview while talks about lots of things but the the point stressed upon have been
1)religious intolerance
2)corruption
3)disinvestment
4)resurgence of opposition primarily congress & AAP
All contents are related directly to interest of the
US in India. It will be foolish to think that a man getting grant from Carnegie will put Indian interest first. These gentlemen are hired to polish up strategies of US for intervention in India. It will be playing into hands of west to give unnecessary attention to these researchers & fatal to think them as Indian researchers.

I have always wondered that why do people become preachy when they move abroad. Is it because you want to sound American, which in fact will always consider you as an outsider because of the colour of your skin. How many Indian boys get married to American woman. A true reflection of acceptance in the society. This will never change because these things run deep in the blood of Americans. The authors lack of exposure to India and its diversity is palpable.

It is laughable when he talks of suppresion of freedom of expression ( when his article without editing is reaching us), religious intolerance - (when this country has the max no. of religions in the world with peaceful co-existnce for centuries) and civil society - Whats this - a select few . Rest all are not civil.
This country is based on tolerance which is centuries old and every religion is practicing the way it wants to. If somebody says something it is also freedom of expression. You counter it. Is anybody engaing in violence. Have there been riots like a predominantly Christian America.
With respect to corruption you cant label these incidents as corruption. At best these are improprieties which could have been avoided. And Lalit Modi is not a criminal. If he is then so is Jyotiraditya scindia, Rajiv shukla and many others who were called by ED in the IPL issue of SA. All tbe issues were jointly decided by 16 people and the BCCI chairman was the one calling the shots. Pls have your facts clear.

DR. VAISHNAV'S OBSERVATIONS ON OUR PROGRESS UNDER OUR PMI
by D.K.MURTHY on Jul 16, 2015 08:30 PM

Dr. Vaishnav deserves a praise for his conviction in his rendering of the facts, which are spoken truthfully straight and simple. Our Prime Minister wherever he is now, must rush to meet Dr. Vaishnav personally and thank him for reading his mind thoroughly well and for what is happening now in India. Most important thing for Mr. Modi now is to get Dr. Vaishnav as his CEO in PMO and start sorting out things for reaping a three consecutive terms for BJP to continue office to administer India\'s progress with initiatives taken based on real home work done for any worthwhile schemes to be announced to see the results in shortest time required.
I would be pleased if Dr. Vaishnav accepts PM\'s invitation to join the Government.

Manohar Bhargava
Modi a Liar
by Manohar Bhargava on Jul 16, 2015 07:44 PM  | Hide replies

I am impressed with the article but it is soft towards Modi and does not deal with harshness it deserves.

The dirty treatment being meted out to Delhi Government is an unbecoming and a sheer disrespect to a thumping majority AAP .It is a history in itself and instead of supporting his anti corruption drive he is using all unethical methods to bring disgrace to Democracy. I am sure Hobbes Locke and Rousseau will be twisting in their graves at the misuse of Democracy in India. No doubt AAP is the biggest slap on BJps win in India and the other parties as well.

The present misrule in BJP ruled states ,Smajwadi and others are reeling under the shame of mismanagement and worst law and order situation.See the religious disharmony in UP,Haryana etc .So how does he expect to come to power.

A man of Modi's stature must impose his orders and honor his commitments rather than take refuge under various reasons. His commitments to the retired ,old infirm soldiers and widows is a shame .He is dubbed as liar in a common mans world.I am honest wand with no bias towards him or his party.

His bending forward and allowing BJP to join handfs with PDP was a balack day in the history of this country when after becoming chief Minister PDP released separatists and other leaders. It is now easy to unfurl the flag of Pakistan.Shout Slogans in favor of Pakistan. Is this called governance.Similarly there is an MP of the government who openly announces that the Muslims will support Pakistan .

What a Joke you just wrote ! Being a resident of Delhi I am unable to find any change despite Mr Kejriwal getting elected with a thumping majority. All you hear is his fights with the governor, the police, the media , with prashant bhushan, yogendra yadav. It seems he is a difficult person who cant work with people. When you are not hearing his fights you hear his advertisements proclaiming that how Delhi people are thrilled at the development. What development / Is it the kachra, the roads, the safety , the traffic, the pollution, inflation, parking, admissions to colleges and schools. Reduction of power and water is an order. It doesn't require executional skills. What has changed is him shamelessly using public money for ads which could have been used elsewhere. First let him pick the broom and clean delhi, put dustbins, and put full time cleaners at all markets. Do some work and then shout and then we will welcome it. But don't bark till then.

Corruption

It is impossible to eradicate 3Ws that is Wine, Wealth(corruption,)woman. If one reads epics and history one can find the influence of Ws. And our late Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi, has said that corruption is world phenomena. Since then, the congress came became so bold and even diluted the laws to escape while doing 3 Ws. Today, two type of categories can enjoy with 3 Es, without investment and sweats, one is Union Leader and other is Politician. Now Mr. Modi has to live and manage with honest and dishonest politicians. How will he succeed only the time can say. Secondly, we the Indians expect immediate results of promises. On the other hand the 'maha' corrupt opposition politicians are waiting to highlight silly matters by converting as corruption. Mr. Narendra Modi may be trying hard to minimize corruption. But do Indians able to understand and give him time? We have seen alleged corrupt politicians returning to power with thumping majority. So what is the yard stick? So, BJP should introspect how to come back to power.

The enemies of India are within our own country: one of the biggest political parties cannot find and Indian born to lead it. It indulged in scams of unprecedented and mindboggling proportions. It indulged in minoritysm and promoted communalism at the same time doing propaganda that the then opposition indulged in it!

'Modi is taking a big risk'

The analysis needs further depth. Consider:
1. The election pattern in India.
2. Most of earlier PMs were either the self-proclaimed powers or controlled remotely by a certain section.
3. Modi is the first non-Congress PM who won majority that has created insecurity among the the past rulers, they are coming together with one agenda pull down Modi.
4. Is it logical to predict that Modi will contunue 2 or three terms? Why this fuss?
5. Opposition working for only opposition, creating chaos in public mind, not supporting or working for national issues. This is one of vital functions of opposition.
6. Voting pattern is very fluid n India, play with the public mind and beat others marginally.
7. This is most unfortunate for India.

Only because he has got majority does not mean that he has right to abuse the past rulers. He should never forget lesson from MahaBharat, where Pandawas said that against enemies they not five but hundred and five.
