.. now that India has decided to give env clearances so that projects can take off, these activists and so called environmentalists have been left high and dry. They dont know how to stop India from growing. Promptly they have brought in USA, a fair weather friend of India. To bring down dust levels, water used to be sprinkled on roads in olden times in Indian cities ... we should do this wherever the dust levels are high, eg, in the evenings at busy crossings and on very busy roads. We should increase use of electric vehicles and hybrid cars, they are non polluting, banning petrol and diesel cars is not the solution.

Sorry that you do not know much about air pollution, its hazards, risks and impacts. And also about automobiles also.. you know the maximum speed of electric bike is 40 Km/hr?? Instead of being a political submissive, try to understand things and respond.. Air pollution is pushing your children to cancer wards!!
all the chimneies should be replaced with Electrostatic precipitator. In Kyodo convention when some countries were alligating US of polluting environment, they quoted Brazil and India and proposed about Tradeable CC certificate of 7$
Kolkata should bring back the tram and 3w Auto should be replaced with Battery powered vehicle. AAP should bring back the TET, the battery powered veh.
Instead of being bothered about pollution and its harmful effect on EVERYBODY, man, woman and child, animal & bird many worthies on this board and others START PLAYING POLITICS.
Will the Government have the courage to put on cars "MY EXHAUST CAUSES POLLUTION & IS DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH" like its diktat on Cigarette packets. I feel inhaling pollution day in and day out is more dangerous than cigarette smoking.
Re: Diesel subsidy

In most developed countries, diesel is about 2-5% costlier than petrol.
Diesel is far more polluting than petrol, particularly in the particulate matter which is being discussed in this article.
Only transport companies (large trucks) and public buses should be allowed to run on diesel.
All cars should compulsorily be made petrol in the next 5 years. This can be done by raising diesel price gradually and reducing petrol price gradually so that petrol is 2 rupees cheaper than diesel. CNG should also be made compulsory for transport vehicles within the city.
Automatically all the cheapo subsidy loving millionaires who drive diesel BMWs, Audis and Mercedes will switch to petrol and CNG. Pollution - particularly particulate matter will come down 50% in no time.
That is why Congress, during all the 60 years was keeping US at an arms length. They have this tendency of interfering in every matter... But our over enthusiastic PM Modi has allowed them the liberty to interfere in the internal matters of our country.
