In India 45% of population still need Government aid and Support
by Satyanarayana Guda on Feb 12, 2015 07:30 PM  | Hide replies

Charan Singh ploted BJP down fall and became PM and Ajit singh ji with RLD deals for central ministry with any party. Lalu and M.Singh stopped BJP and their family is in power always. YSR stopped BJP meaning TDP and his son got huge money and a party YSRCP. Navin Patnaik stopped BJP and got Congress family power for 10 yrs with 2Gs etc and Vajpayee ji and his best Govt had to loose. Mamtha Ji also did similar thing for her CM ship. Thus all those who worked to stop BJP have the nation family power and leaders like Lalu, Mulayam. Even CPI also did it and shared power with Cong. Now it is the turn of AAP and most intelligent Delhi voters. What they give to the Nation by stopping BJP only time will tell. Had Jantha Govt continued or had NDA 1999 -2004 continued nation would have had complete infrastructure like fully developed NH system running across country etc and rivers linking benefitting millions of farmers. Yes even today 45% of indian population needs govt support and aid. But freebies with out development can never be possible. Look at YSR govt in AP 2004-2014, West Bengal under CPM CPM is declared pro poor party has no industry and remains poor. Similarly Bihar under lalu was nothing but Jungele raj. Will history repeat or AAP does something unexpected time will only tell.

Very thoughtful and to the point.
I agree lower class will always vote for freebies. It is freebies which will always keep them poor.
I am satisfied with Modi's performance so far... GDP growth, low inflation, Tough with Pak, FDI, Make in India, Improved India's image abroad, Possible Permanent Seat in UNSC, Bank accounts for poor, focus on infrastructure etc etc

Poor people need govt support.but to be governed the rulers need corporate support.it is clearl happened in modis election as prime minister. The corporate has many things free in india including tax rebates.when compared to corporates the common man gets nothing free in this country. when crude oil rate down we paid extra Rs.2.00 twice by way of tax to govt.now nothing is free to common man.even if he wish to save some money for his furure he has to pay service tax. Think twice before u talk

Happy for AAP
by lax yopr on Feb 12, 2015 07:05 PM

I really hope AAP brings around a change for every Delhite and for the country.
But they need to recognize the burden put on their shoulders with such a massive win.
They are under a microscope now.
Good intentions is not enough - smart thinking, brutal execution and communication are the key.

One Key Point Missed by Ashutosh
by Manian on Feb 12, 2015 07:02 PM

Since this is about governance beside the points mentioned the key to success would be to carry the team of employees of government and local authorities who should be able to contribute with the same ideology and value systems. This will be the main challenge since they are used to different culture and working methodology ( including corrupt systems) . Battle is not won by a King alone and you need perfect and understanding team from top to bottom. Good Incentive and recognition coupled with transparent IT system can be a motivator which can bring competition for timely and qualitative deliverable I wish them all success in this endeavor.

Statehood

It is squarely an absurd thinking by AAP to ask for Complete statehood for Delhi as BJP was claiming earlier. It was a political stunt & gimmick by BJP & now it is by AAP. Political parties must think about the nation first. There is no logic,no rationale,no need to make the national capital a complete state.AAP,BJP,Congress & media should put an end to any debate in this respect & the precious time should be spend for the welfare of the people & growth of the country.Political parties, please & please, give good governance, don't go for mud sliding.

They will also have to generate revenue for all of the largesse that they promised. They will also inherit a bureaucracy that is defunct and puerile. Since AK has expertise in the bureaucracy, he may be able to keep them in check. But getting mega money is going to be his mega challenge.
Last but not the least, is the mindset of Delhiites. They worship jugaad, which is the root of most corruption.
Will Delhiites agree to pay taxes and related cesses and let go of their privileges? Probably not.
AAP has bitten off more than it can chew. I sincerely hope for India, that they can find a way to run an efficient and low cost government and also deliver on the promises they made in the heat of elections.
No it is not easy.

It was funny to read AK's suggestion that BJP give them full statehood, which is the right of Delhiites. But he was silent on taking the responsibilities that go with it. Loss of entitlement is another issue that they may not have thought about.

AAP and Myth of the freebies
by shashi kant sinha on Feb 12, 2015 06:52 PM  | Hide replies

Electoral success and providing clean and good governance are two different things. Delhi is a rich state and revenue is good but the freebies promised are just not achievable. I don't think AAP has any workable model for Delhi and it is evident with their demand of make Delhi "complete state". Problem with AAP that all of them including the author has an escapist tendency and very first they figure out is the escape route.
