US doesn't bother about India at all. India is nothing compared to China to USA. USA will think 100 times for China than for India, simply because of the size of the economy of the two countries. His visit will not bring any substantial investment in India. He will go, speak in UN and eat lunch with various dignitaries and come back to India. That is it.

Focus Changed
by Ravi Kumar on Sep 22, 2014 08:28 PM  | Hide replies

All these years people used to feel that Politicians travel to other countries is something very official and some meeting will happen.
But With Modi's leadership, people are beginning to talk about the contribution of other countries in our country's growth.
With his election agenda, people started to speak about Growth Model(good or bad). With his foreign travel people are talking about partnership(good or bad) of other countries.
I think this in itself is a big change

You said it correctly, "Started to Talk". It will be limited to that, always. Under his leadership, India will not get any investment from anywhere in the world. He can only talk and talk and talk and talk.

Yes, I am talking the fundamentals of wisdom of a person. Ask yourself how much you are practical versus how much you are simply following a person. PFollowing a person is not bad, if that brings good to you. Does following Modi brings good to anybody? My point is he has no capability. He can only talk. Under his administration, in last 100 days, China has crossed India's border largest amount of time compared to Congress time. Under his administration in these 100 days Pakistan has dared India to tale back whole Kashmir. What are you talking about his leadership?

Americans have never supported India, they are only eyeing our markets to sell their goods. They give billion dollars aid to Pakistan, who fool them with the bogey of Al Qaida and other terrorists organisation.Obama needs funds for the next Presidential elections and he is very keen to please the arms lobby which is the major fund raiser for his party.Hence Modi should be careful in dealing with Americans.

USA will only fund if (1) they get facilities in India to invest, like tax benefits, protection of patents, etc and (2) they have enough extra obsolete technology to sell to third world countries. They never sell their primary technology to countries like India.

Modi
by Syz on Sep 22, 2014 08:09 PM  | Hide replies

It is unfortunate for the Indian people that we have to accept this person as our PM. Manmohan Singh was never like him, dramabaaz. MMS never spoke, only when he thought he could do something positive he spoke. He never spoke just to get the limelight. Modi is an attention seeker, because he knows he has only this quality of speaking, nothing else. I guess it is obvious. There must be a difference between an Oxford graduate and a chaa wala. It shows in their behavior.

Yes, he was bounded by his people, especially Sonia. No body can deny that. Similarly Modi is not free also, he is bounded by Sangha Paribar. Don't think that he can do whaever he likes. But the difference is he likes to talk and talk big things before he can even put his hands on. He proposed 100 tech cities. Is that possible? What happened to his promise? How much investment has he brought? He only knows how to use sentiment between two communities.

This happens when you read and worship Modi too much. Get realistic and open your eyes. See how much our government actually does before you support them. But I guess to do that you need to have some brain matter, which I seriously doubt you have. Have you ever read articles written by people like Arundhuti Roy, Katju, Kuldeep Nair? I guess you never heard about them yet.

Investment
by Syz on Sep 22, 2014 07:26 PM  | Hide replies

Everything boils down to the question: how much investment will this trip bring back from USA? Until that figure is determined, the actual investment figure, not the figures signed in MOU, will be the factor for determination if Modi's visit was successful of not. People of India have seen enough of this dramabazi of Narendra Modi. The reports present this trip in such a way that he is the only person visiting New York this time. All all leaders who are visiting New York during this time for the UN meeting are getting same coverage in their respective media. Indian people think Barak Obama is only meeting with Modi. But he is meeting with as many leaders as possible and he has a busy schedule in which Modi is just a time slot. People should be realistic instead of jumping. I am waiting for Achche Din, still counting on Modi.

Naileshji, as per ur logic our countrymen also must be extremely unhappy in India nai...lots of Indians in US, Australia, Canada, UAE< Dubai, Bahrain etc...
Citizens of Gaza, Egypt, Libya, Iran, Yemen, Malaysia & Indonesia are quite happy in their respective countries and are fighting against the external intervention of countries like US, France,UK etc in their internal matters.
Something like what Bhagat Singh, Azad, Veer Savarkar, Netaji did for our country in their own way...they also took to violence to fight against occupiers !

On one hand you say it's dramabazi of Narendra Modi, on the other hand you say all people visiting UN meeting are getting the same coverage... so either they all are dramabaz or your expression is an exaggeration. And do you really think US President has all the time to be part of this Dramabazi? As an Indian, why should we be concerned about coverage to other leaders. We are only concerned about Indo-US relationship.

Secondly, meeting with US is not all about investment... its also about collaboration on strategic fronts, knowledge sharing and several other global issues where India can play an important role.

if anybody has ever done anything good for India-USA relation, it was Vajpayee. During his administration he was able to make India as a friend of USA and he was able to renew the friendship. Clinton was Democratic president, as Obama is. How much difference do you observe now? Do you think Obama is of same type like Clinton? What new relation will he make with India? For Modi, the first priority is to bring investment, if he can.

In 100 days Modi got $35billion investment from Japan and a total of about $50-60billion from China. How much did MMS get?

You were brain washed by people like Modi. The $35 B was a commitment (a maximum limit), not a pledge. Do you understand the difference between them? Do you understand the difference between a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) and actual investment? How much Japan will actually invest will depend on local factor like benefits from the administration. Read another news item from Rediff few days ago on the conditions Japan imposed on funding. Can India meet those conditions?

I totally agree with you. The news media is behaving like paid agents of Modi, as if he is the only PM who is visiting New York this time. There should be a limit on propaganda. I am really tired of news papers resorting this trick of creating drama. What is the big deal of this visit? He needs to show he has been able to bring some actual investment. Actual investments come through the negotiations of back channels, not doing dramabazi like this. He is more interested to prove himself as a person acceptable to the world than to perform for his country.

Indo - American Relations
by Kompella Harinarayana on Sep 22, 2014 07:12 PM

Looking at the world and its complex dynamics, it is high time the largest two democracies work hand-in-hand for their own prosperity and world peace. There will always be issues to be debated and divergent perspectives. But, when it comes to one to one relationship, true mutual respect should prevail.
