Before that it was 8 D & 24 P
by Parika Gupta on Sep 18, 2014 03:33 PM  | Hide replies

Here is the reason.

The govt cannot increase diesel in jump as the kisan/agriculture lobby jumps.

So in a subtle way govt (over decades) has increased diesel more than petrol less (1.5 for d & 1.4 for P)

Public did not realise it.

Ultimately D will end up more that Petrol.

Just wai and wtach.

Yes thats true, at present also international price of diesel is more than petrol. Indian prices are directly related to international prices hence diesel is supposed to be expensive.
However, while there is about Rs. 20/- per litre taxes, VAT, Excise on petrol; on diesel it is only Rs. 10/- per litre.
So if diesel is expensive by Rs. 3 or 4 as per international market, in India it will be cheaper by Rs. 6 or 7 and that is the present scenario in India.
