Repeal AFSPA under one condition
by Vikram on Oct 14, 2014 08:57 PM

The central government should agree to repeal AFSPA only if it goes along with repealing article 370. Are the people of J&K okay with that? I am guessing not, because there IS a problem in this state, that is a fact.

The generals have a point when they say they need AFSPA for carrying on their duties efficiently.

If the situation is so conducive to removal of AFSPA, why not absolve them of the internal duties in valley and have police and CRPF do that?
Omar and others wants to score political points in their expense but don't have the guts to do this.

You want need them to fight with their one hand tied against an enemy mixed up well in the population with all material and directional support from India's sworn enemy.

Its easy to sit in the comfort of your homes and pass judgements. The people who are fighting on the ground need to be the ones who makes decisions on these tactical matters!

also..
the mis uses of AFSPA is a rare especially in past decade when the militancy is at the downturn. and the internal actions have been quite effective.

The military need to be encouraged to decide on their pace of making AFSPA irrelevant to a Kashmiri on ground.

AFSPA is clearly not working,, coz even after decades of its application,, India is still scared of losing Kashmir.

Keep it in place please,, that will be a boon to separatists.. if it was not for 9/11, kashmir would have been in the spotlight,, slowly and steadily,, it will come back again in the near future,, and the situation will be worst than it is... you can keep the millions of people oppressed for long,, the big change is coming soon.. india be warned... sudhar ja.

India should grab rest of Kashmir(POK)
by Mar Thoma on Oct 14, 2014 05:52 PM

and Bring back all the Pandits, give them free housing to them. Everyone should be allowed to start business and buy property in J & K. Then only the state will flourish.

The value of PAK muslim is XERO in gulf states. They treat Indians much better. if Goa,Sikkim or Hyderabad can integrate why not J&K.after all they have even started carpet shops even in south indian cities. Mugals & British considered them as inferior and ISI see them as useless for JIHAD.

article 370 cannot be repealed.. because it is a key component of kashmir's accession to INDIA.. DOING that will nullify accession and it will going back to 1947.
do you have the guts to do that?
even modi will not do that,,

First get back displaced Kashmiri Hindus and provide them their homes and then talk about repealing AFSPA. Why should Hindus suffer always? Let their be level playing foield created and then withdraw the law. We shuld not pamper always one section of community. This is especially when minorities in other parts of India are pampered to no end. Also, scrap Article 370 and then talk about AFSPA.

THE DRACONIAN AND DICRIMINATORY AFSPA MUST GO
by damodaran mohan on Oct 14, 2014 05:08 PM  | Hide replies

Very sensible column indeed.AFSPA repeal is needed more for our own sake rather than for looking good in eyes the international world. Don’t we as Indians people feel guilty of subjecting a section of our own people to unfair and unequal treatment ? Continuing AFSPA only underscores Army's lack of confidence in itself. Subjecting the very people we call our own to such a draconian provision is unacceptable and giving a handle to our enemies to propagate against us. Moreover people of any region for that matter will always feel alienated by use of such discriminatory laws and with increased awareness on human rights, women’s right issues etc. such laws are bound to prove counterproductive with fresh problem cropping up everyday. Worst comes to worst it can be reimposed but we must give it a try.It is for the Army and govt. to keep adequate vigil at the borders to ensure that the need for such a regressive law is not needed. If GOI thinks the LAW is essential for K to be integral part of India then it might as well handover K to Pakistan.
