by Suchandra Dey on Nov 15, 2014 11:59 PM  | Hide replies

India ruled by Nehru and his successors have made India one of the poorest countries of the world.India is now 20 years behind China and unable to compete with it and one day will be taken over by it like Tibet.

Yes, Mr Dey you are correct. I do also feel the same but I see the thing in different way, Indian is poor , because Indian is not fighting against colonial rules and regulation till today so the poverty is still a strong challenge to the new generation to combat it.Both Congress and BJP are doing politics taking advantage of colonial political practice.

No certainly u r wrong. Nehru has given a definite direction to a country which just liberated. The way he managed the diversity and maintained sovereignty, secularism, democracy and welfare governance is praiseworthy.
Had Patel or Bose being at the helm, I'm sure India would have gone Pak way.

entire history

We study history for almost 7 yrs. The entire history can be made 1 subject in 1 class and be done with it.

We don't remember it. It doesn't serve any practical purpose. You can read it any time in future in books and wiki.

It should be replaced with General Knowledge, Basic Law, Health and Medicine, Life skills - like basic plumbing, cooking, electrical works, Environment...and such subjects.

Nehru's Legacy
by samuel GS on Nov 15, 2014 07:02 PM  | Hide replies

We are all born late by three generations. We do not know what was the condition of India at the time of Independence. We came to know through study of history only. How many of us have tasted the lathi blows and kick of British army and police? Receiving freedom from foreign power was not so easy at that time. How many times our leaders had received blows and sent to jail. They suffered leaving all comforts and their families. Criticising a leader is very easy, because we are in a better position now. The great sacrifice made by our leaders of yester-years placed us in a better position. Do not show your anger here. Put forth your constructive discussion in a better way with due respect to our leaders. Other wise the foreigners will laugh at you.

better study History of freedom struggle , and know more before commenting , Basically Congress consisted of people of various kinds and class , but after second world War, the most friendly people were preferred by Britishers to hand over the power ignoring those who were aggressive or in attacking mode to revenge , killings , hangings, lathi blows, and jailed .
My advise is to read the History of your own to make firm opinion.
Gandhi suggested to disintegrate the Congress and form new parties of your choices, but power brokers in Congress ignored this pious and honest advice of Gandhi and took all credits to themselves along with power legacy.

Nehru & History
by Ashwin on Nov 15, 2014 12:50 PM

The author interviews the Director who announces that Rs.20 & 5 Crores were earmarked for certain projects. And the whole Congress is Ha! Ha! about forgetting history & anti Nehru etc. Dont we see them contradicting their own statements? If we should not forget history, we should not forget the rule of mughuls, Allauddin Khilji, Aurangzeb etc. & what kind of persecution hindus encountered under these kings. But we all say, we cant dwell on the past for ever & have to forge ahead. Students of Physics dont have to remember history lessons. So those interested & involved c an remember what ever topics, history they are interested. No one stops. Let the author say, have we done justice to Subhash Chandra Bose or tried to erase him, all thru Congress rule?

Can anybody outline positive contributions of Nehru? Particularly, why did he not demand partition of Sindh for Sindhi Hindus? Why did he delay military action in Goa?

One shouldn't forget the history, but can't live holding to it. To move forward you have to sideline the history to move ahead or else the history which is nightmarish will always haunt and will apply breaks in moving and marching forward.

Because of his commitment to democracy, a worm like you is able to criticize him with impunity. Had the knickers seized power after independence, you know where you would have landed if you had dared to criticize them.
