Education standards in rural areas..
by Hitendra Singh on Sep 26, 2014 11:30 PM

Education standards in rural areas..
Latest news..SC. and ST.candidates get just 15 out of 500 marks = 3% pass marks and are being appointed as a teacher,in Rajasthan, may be in other states also..While for others candidates 60% is minimum selection marks.
On one hand, no student is being failed upto class 8th..on the other hand teachers are without basic education standards themselves..
Then teachers are being penalised when their students do not perform.
If students fail in class, their rural parents get a good escuse not to send the child to school..RTE!!! The child is promptly sent off to cut grass or grase cows and goats..
Now, till education in class at primary levels are not good, how can any child rase and shine.
In Japan primary teachers are best as they get salary equal to college lecturers..
We must select best teachers for our primary school on one hand on the other hand we must have quaterly refresher and or training cources for them..
Negative and weak teachers and students must be identified and given special training and councelling,to become good citizens.
90% rural students need work oriented training.
All cash rich Temples and Madarsa must utilise their wealth to set up mini/full ITI's so that max future generations could be gainfully utilised/employed..

What leads to disparity in education of young Indians?

It says only 1.1% are post graduate and above in 65.5% literate people in India. Though right now education system in India is altruistic and based on welfare system (at government) as compare to advanced nations, though it is very theoretical and idealistic. It lacks realism, practical knowledge and market oriented knowledge.
Now, what big changes do I hope the government will make to transform education in India in the years to come? These are few things government should adopt to make education worthwhile in society, and in the country. Though, it is based on teaching-learning system, but here I have discussed about it from a learner’s or a student’s view.
1)      Make a uniform education system in India, i.e. in the entire country. At school and university level all education systems must be identical in the nation. That uniform education system must be based on global education system. All school boards, higher secondary boards, universities, technical institutes etc should be uniform, and then there will be less confusion and less failure.
2)      Educational schools, institutes, universities, technical institutes should be empathetic about students, their nature, guide them properly and show them right path in youth age.
3)      Ensure educational schools, institutes, universities, technical institutes must be job oriented and they should properly understand employers, present market system etc to orient students about it.

Uniform System at all levels is the need of the day
by ganajivenmanraj seven on Sep 26, 2014 06:28 PM

Uniform education system here means the same division of schooling into middle school, high school and college with each division divided into "standards" having the same set of courses available with more or less the same syllabus across our country. The big idea behind having a unified system is that if everything is taught at the same time then people can switch schools when moving and not suffer any effects. Moreover every person who has the necessary practical knowledge/learning ability can sit through an open university and get into the main stream at any age.

universalisation of education

India needs a revolution in quality education .We have a large number of retired professors between the age group of 60-70 years. who are willing to render their service at a nominal return but the govt has no plan to utilise them for spread of quality education. When we need more teachers in universities the ugc can hire these competent senior retired teachers by making a national pool at UGC level and sending them wherever they are required at nominal salary of their last pay minus pension, this would cover their living expenses. This would partially meet the shortage of qualified teachers in university & colleges all over country.Their services can be fruitfully utilised in post graduate teaching and research.

Education in India
by Subramaniam narayan on Sep 26, 2014 03:58 PM

I remember, way back 20 years ago, the ex-prime minister of Singapore who brought up that country to the top level, told in a public meeting that India has to give top priority to quality education if it has to come up. Our great govt. and politicians just ignored him, since his agenda will not give them votes. Instead, if you keep people ignorant, they can whip up people's emotions and cash in on that and fill their own coffers after they win the election.
This gae has been going successfully till recent times, only now the youngsters are realising that political promises based, religion, region, language, caste, etc., have very limited use for majority of them.
The day they totally reject these out-dated ideas, we will start coming up.

The graph is alarming. Although it shows 34% illiterate it is closer to 50% if one includes those below primary. India's education system needs an overhaul, right from the primary stage to post-graduation. There must be less emphasis on large syllabi and rote learning. Greater emphasis on identifying students aptitude and training them accordingly should be the goal. Even school education must lay greater emphasis on practical application rather then teaching only dry theory. Education at all levels must emphasise self-learning, skills development and character building.

Good thinking. You are correct. All Indian universities/schools teach only dry theory with over-emphasis on completing a large syllabi. Even after completing 12th std all students are only filled with information and zero skills. Same is the case after completing university. Less theory and more applied & practical knowledge leading to skill development is what is needed.

continuing financial constraints in education?!
by Bincy on Sep 04, 2014 12:42 PM

My simple observation is that despite Right to education, i.e. free education, why is finance or money still an official obstacle. Which means, how money is still accepted as an excuse for not studying? I believe that is something to look into.
