DEVYANI CASE
by Srinivasaraghavan S on Jan 12, 2014 12:40 PM

I am very much worried that it could spill over on other Indian diplomats both in USA and American diplomats in India. Since USA laws are draconian they can do it without impunity. They may arrest some more Indian diplomats who have been having maids for help. The PM must intervene and stop Shri Khurshid to be more polite to the diplomats who are our guests. In diplomacy especially foreign diplomacy people do things slowly. China, Pakistan and others are watching for us to have some kind of altercation with USA. Any way let not the war be started by Indians. India should always be peace loving and show more graciousness. The UPA should not give more problems to the next prime minister to handle and set right. Why Khurshid is so angry against USA.

SHAME BROUGHT TO THE COUNTRY
by abhay narayan on Jan 12, 2014 12:31 PM  | Hide replies

Its high time Govt. of India take strict Disciplinary action against Devyani for not abiding US laws and bringing shame to the country. Indian Govt. has not given Visa to its diplomats to break laws of countries where they are posted. CAN ANY READER FILE RTI APPLICATION ASKING GOVT. WHY NO ACTION IS TAKEN AGAINST DEVYANI FOR BREAKING US LAWS?Without such pressure, GOI will never take action as high influential father and Dalit card will always protect her, and more and more such blunders will be done.

She must be punished since she is an offender and brought disgrace to India. India will not pardon to existing government for spoiling relationship with a nation of strategic importance. Why her crooked father making it India's pride. Make a referendum and the government will learn that they are spoiling the relationship for a wrong cause. She is a cheater. Though economy so well, she has cheated own community by depriving the seat of one genuine and really oppressed candidate from own community. Now she and her father is doing caste politics and government is felling easy prey to their trap. Every one is watching!!! Why no one is talking about the Ms. Richards. Since she is from community whose population is less and votes are less. Why no one is talking about her rights are breached by so called this Indian Pride????

If Govt. of India go on appointing incapable officers like Devyani, who is not capable of managing such small issue of employing a servant and maintain framework of the law of foreign country, how can we expect such high ranking official to manage foreign affairs of the country? This shows incapable non meritorious candidature of Devyani. High time GOI should decide the recruitment policy based on merits.

Sour grapes for the Indian thieves!
by piri on Jan 12, 2014 11:53 AM

The bottomline never changes....whatever common middle class Indians say or think about it.

Devyani Khobragade lied to US immigration officials and filed false affidavits! This fact is too well established and out in the open for anyone to hope making a denial! And that is why the Indian govt. never spoke about it!

And Devyani Khobragade overworked her maid. This fact, because there is no documentary proof, can be and is vehemently denied by the dy. consul and by anyone wanting to defend her.

But overworking maids and uderpaying them given a chance is so very much in the blood of most middle class Indians that denial will sound very very hollow!

In the end, the dy. consul's (and her father's) dream of immigrating to the US lies shattered.

Father thief and daughter thief now can go on putting brave faces and making labouriously arrogant statements. But they are and will remain glum with the knowledge that their dream of living in the US for good will never materialise!

L'affaire Devyani

It is no secret that there are lakhs of illegal immigrants , chiefly of Mexican and other Hispanic origin, employed in domestic and commercial establishments but paid wages far below those stipulated by US laws. One wonders why the hearts of the US administration do not bleed for them.

You are contradicting yourself. You say illegal immigrants and want the administration to bleed for them. Not going to happen. It's US buddy...not India where govt bleeds feeding illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and gives them ration cards, voter IDs etc.

Yes, there are so many illegal migrants and so many illegal maids employed in US. But brilliant Indians "manage" such things. But incapable officers getting positions just due to influence and their cast, can not manage such things and get caught. Afteral the proverb goes "NAKAL KARNE KO AKAL CHAHIYE". Its time to think, if such senior IFS official cannot manage Sangeeta, how she can manage the affairs of such large and complex country. Do she deserve such high ranking position (which she got thru influence and by wrong means?
(of course I do not support all those who are illegally managing their affairs in US, I am just appreciating their capability in contradiction to incapability of Davyani, who is meant to handle reins of India in overseas country))

L'affaire Devyani
by rajat narain on Jan 11, 2014 10:46 PM  | Hide replies

First , Article 41 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations is pretty clear that local labour laws do not ,repeat ,DO NOT apply to the personal staff of consular officials of foreign countries. As such , US had no business to interfere in the matter of the pay of Devyani's maid,in the first place..

Second, that her arrest was part of a planned conspiracy calculated to embrrass the Indian govt is suggested by the following facts: [1] the maid had gone missing weeks before Devyani 's arrest ,[2] a criminal case had been filed against the maid in India [3] the US govt had been apprised [4] the maid's family was surreptitiously 'evacuated' to the US ,at US govt cost, a couple of days before Devyani's arrest , under a rarely used T [ Trafficking ] Visa obviously to help them 'emigrate' permanently .

One wonders why these facts were not highlighted by the Foreign Office or the Indian media.

she lied on the visa application ... if Vienna Convention did not apply she should not have filed the visa petition itself or put the right wage amount that she was going to pay to the maid.

Pity that Devyani didn't stay back in the US to tell your "story" in her defence.
She chose to run away. Why? Because your story is blatantly false..

We were skating on thin ice as there was a false statement. The highhanded treatment meted out to Devyani paled into the background as we had lost our case. US has their way and let us admit we are not in the same league as beggars cannot be choosers as most know including some from us who are foreign citizens now. The treatment meted out to us everywhere is below par and GOI should also try to enhance the general image - not just act like monkeys on hot bricks when their own are involved.

Filth created by Dalit Babus
by Aam Aadmi on Jan 11, 2014 03:22 PM  | Hide replies

The filth this is seen now from the people who are Babus by virtue of dait certificate will take India down to great extent.
These people have no ethics or moral values. They are trying to become Masters by virtue of reservations. Once they get a job, they become Neo-brahmins and feel ashamed about their roots. They do not want their own brethren to be seen with them as that may lower their dignity.
This corrupt lady and her father are the great examples. India is looked upon as a land of filth created by such Babus who are nototious in all their activities.
Govt. should file case of misrepresentation against this lady and also case of corruption. She has a flat in Adarsh and many more properties spread across various states of India.
