Yoga indeed increases the life span.

All the great yogis have age spans of 90 and over. This is something I have observed.

B.K.S.Iyengar died at 96. Pattabhi Jois at 94, Krishnamacharya at 100, Indra Devi at 103.

Yoga indeed increases the life span.

No offence. Mr Khushwant Singh also lived long, with his Chotta Peg.. Come on guys...living long after certain age..for what? You become burden to the younger generation who are leading a dogs life nowadays.

Yes, Khushwant and Winston Churchill too lived to their nineties , but these were men of exceptional health and vitality.

B.K.S.Iyengar, on the other hand, was a man who suffered from tuberculosis, influenza, malaria, typhoid in his childhood and was predicted by doctors as one who will not survive beyond 20.

He survived and lived to his mid-nineties with other great achievements to his name.

That is truly a conquest of death.

So Mr. Manoharan, we expect you to extinguish your life your self after you have become a burden to the society (in your old age). You should practice what you preach.

Ur attitude says u don't belong to a YOGA group.-as a person who had conditioned his mind or body. My intention was living long without any service to family or society and a burden to toiling and moiling children is no YOGI will love except a ROGI. Please understand.

the time you spend on yoga is directly linked to the years u live beyond 80. So, many hrs of time is wasted in yoga. Better try to run or do swimming.

Bhaskar,
What you said is absurd, because Yoga is a way of living, it is not only a science or art but whole life. I have experienced all swimming, long distance running and Yoga and plase Yoga at top. You need to know all to compare.

The so called "yoga" that is being taught is nothing but contortions of body to strengthen specific parts of the body. It's an insult to the term Yoga. It's at its best, hatha yoga. Asana is just one of the limbs of the yoga and is not of primary importance. The ultimate aim of Yoga is to attain Samadhi and break free from the notions of body and the individual self. Hatha yoga has been condemned by many yogis including Thirumoola as it increases attachment towards body. Yoga is something that enables to you break the identification of yourself with body and propel yourself into higher states. It's sad that such great personalities such as Patanjali are being used certain practitioners to justify their pursuit of money and fame.

YOGA for whom?
by Manoharan on Aug 22, 2014 12:20 PM  | Hide replies

With no offence to elites and intelligentsia may I point out that this YOGA is exclusively for such people and it is a great luxury for normal toiling mass. Toiling people never needed YOGA and they had lived longer-happier innocent life, envy of yoga class attenders. So I feel these Gurus were as necessary to these elites as the SUN & RAIN is necessary to the toiling mass.

I first read the great Indian yoga guru from a cover storey in Reader's Digest magazine 18 years ago. There after no any significant story I noticed in any magazine. It was a fault of the knowledge commercialization.
