Why only dictator should do so !
by Ravi Airy on Aug 03, 2014 11:08 AM  | Hide replies

If minorities could teach ONLY Quran in Madrasas in India and Islamic world then forget vote bank politics and let 85% Hindu children learn Vedas, Gita and other holy books in primary schools. Congis & others like JDU, RJD, SP & CPM have learnt a lesson after BJP's massive victory and now on no more appeasement of minorities will help win majority in Lok Sabha. Indeed Bharat will truly become Congress Mukt Bharat by 2019. Thats my Bhavishyavani !

Gita & Vedas are rich in lessons of life & can only boost ones wisdom & confidence to take on life , but going by what the Madrasas have done to its students , shouldn't the ecosystem that imparts this knowledge be home rather than institutions ?

Dont know how many of our Politicians, Academicians in NCERT & Min of Education know that Vedas & Gita taught several & ONLY good things, to learn & implement in life. But our rulers do not want Indians to learn good things because they feel learning good things will spoil the Country.

Well, I don't know how many are familiar , but I do believe that several are & I don't doubt their judgement because its not just how it is imparted , but also how it gets received at such institutes & outside. I, for one, would certainly not like these verses to be misconstrued & labelled radical as had happened in one of the courts in one country, without understanding the pretext in which they were mentioned & their broader meanings. So, perhaps, its best to have them imparted where their meanings & context can be amply cleared & I have my doubts if institutionalizing these great lessons would not have their undesirable side-effects.

Schooling
by Vik on Aug 03, 2014 11:00 AM

Education to me is not just about curriculum but also unshackling ones mind & opening up space to think beyond the obvious & that's why our schooling doesn't seem to end , no matter at what stage of life we happen to be in. Value education , no doubt builds a firm foundation & keeps us from distraction at that stage, but perhaps the essence of this is best taught at homes , as our approaches & paths may vary. The alternative may appear the easier choice but it may be unwise to ignore the inherent constraints that may play out in undesired fashion over time.

Perhaps a more focused syllabi , that incorporates an introduction to 'practical science' at a junior level , standard 1 or 3 , with simple illustrations from life , like magnets attraction, dismantling & understanding pull-back-action cars & such that allows seeing how things are & function will create inquisitiveness & interest & prepare them to understand concepts better in future to realize & craft what doesn't yet exist to build a confident & productive nation.

It is a spiritual book, not a religious book,One can learn humanity and secularism from it. it is origin of all DHARMAS, must be put in syllabus with amendments, as with the passage of time, governance, circumstances and life style change, but philosophy of life never change.

Nice to see judge speaking his mind

So called secularist wii not like it, but they forget the fact that India is secular not since the word secular was introduced in the constitution, but from many hundred years & this is due to hinduism & its teachings. Can any one name a single country, where muslims are in majority and it has adopted secularism ?

I cannot understand why Mahayuddha could not be avoided in Kurukshetra, why for ages Indian kings have been engaged in wars, which were not without violence and India remained divided into warring kingdoms in spite of having common culture of Mahabharata and Gita,
why violence in the form of murder of innocent widows through \\\\\\\'Sati system\\\\\\\' were followed by the proponents of obscure social system in the medieval India, why shakha volunteers of RSS can\\\\\\\'t practice their drills without lathis!! Mr. Justice, you are you are asking us to put our foot in the wrong shoes !! Our present day education system , in spite of having many limitations , also teaches the message of love and mutual respect for all citizens and not hatred and violence. Revivalist ideology and a culture of dictatorship do not fit into a modern society !! After all,m we are all children of the same God , if you believe there is one.

Focus on Food, Health, Discipline, Laws, Safety

Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship. Work is worship.
Gita, Koran, Bible has failed. The earlier people realise it and focus on science, technology, mind-body
development, sports, physical-mental health, pollution, quality food, water, sanitation, performance and
productivity, the better it would be to turn ourselves into a developed nation from a Third World country.

All these studies are good but what Gita teaches is much more than all of it and moreover Gita will last for ever but other teachings will get upgraded/changed frequently.

You should not dictate judges. He knows what he has to do. Why you are taking his statement negatively? Is it because Gita is hindu religion spiritual book? If you think in that way try to improvise your own thinking. Please pay attention to Afgan, Pakistan, Iran, Gaza & many other countries facing problem because of such ideology.

Contempt of Constitutional ideals imposes severe costs
by Ramesh on Aug 03, 2014 03:45 AM  | Hide replies

This slight to Indian Constitution by a SC Judge is indicative of the malaise which has set into the edifice of Indian administration. This gentleman may be a sincere and honest man, he perhaps does not know the damage he is causing to the ciivc state by indulging in moralization.

The high moral ground he takes, makes him popular among the uninitiated, but the discerning are likely to be fully aware of the ignorance from which such utterances sprout.

These words, had it emanated from a lower Court Judge could have been disregarded, or even interpreted charitably as mere conjecturing to convey sound intent.

Indian development and prosperity is squarely related to the quality of its jurisprudence. The cost of ignoring or absolving this judge may not be visible at present, but nevertheless shall get extracted.

The world-view that one particular book has answers to issue of violence and terror can only come from an unsound mind.
