Had Gandhi been around during September 1948, there wouldn't have been a 'Police Action' on Nizam's terrirtory and there would have been another enemy_country in the south too.

Had people like Godse and his ilk been allowed to rule this country, people like Vishvaksenah would have been shot dead in encounters long back. I don't think Rediff would be there for us to share our views... The owners would have long been shot dead for speaking against the Ruling class. The fact that you can criticise the Govt and still be alive is because of the culture Mahatma Gandhi gave to the politicians who then ruled India.

get education and read it will brighten your mind.

Without Gandhi's unique ability to unite Indian people from east to west and north to south, there would have be no independence and perhaps no India as we know it today. Without his honest and upright leadership, every region and every community of India would have gone separate ways. He was not perfect as he saw no evil in any one (including Muslims and Muslim league leaders that wanted to create a separate country). So appreciate you ungrateful people - India that you know is India what this frail man and the people inspired by him created for you.

non violent activities?
by dineshhassija on Oct 02, 2013 04:09 PM  | Hide replies

In actual practice, non violent activities are more violent than violent activities... certain relations like employer-employee, parents-son after marriage, husband-wife,... where non violent acts could actually be mental torturing...

These were the internal freedoms that we need to work for!

Bengal is a classic example!

Most of the factories made by British here were closed down or locked out through trade unions, just after independence as the employer employee relations were not good or discriminatory!

But if we only resort to violent means or lockouts , rather than internal insight and modifications we loose tremendously in long run.

its time we re look into our so called family institutions or within!

All the said practices are to be analysed rationally and refined , re tuned!

We need insight institutions ...institutes which promotes or provides mirror image!

we have imbibed great wisdom and practices too through ages, (like the cremation rituals after death), which we need to understand.

Gandhi was a very natural and basic...
by kallol paul on Oct 02, 2013 03:43 PM  | Hide replies

That's why his natural hood invokes so many emotions even now!

Its not about eulogizing Gandhi, even he was against it!

Its time we slowly assure him peace and freedom even after 144 years of his birth.

He preached and practiced freedom of all kind after all.

I wish he lived longer to set in writing what he believed , for the benefit of we ignorant Indians!

Even the security people at Raisina hills told me promptly that " A.b.h.i Gandhiji k.a J.a.m.a.n.a n.a.h.i r.a.h.a!"

Such is his requirement even now....in connecting top and bottom ,hills and the plains.

The concept of India doesnot start at around 1947 only!
by kallol paul on Oct 02, 2013 03:12 PM

or with invasive Aryans or Harappan or Mohenzodaro civilization!

But way before who the language Sanskrit even got evolved! and long history upto which the kingdoms or king hood were established!

Sanskrit is such a evolved language! Did it come all of a sudden?

So we can see that our peripheries will vanish upto the basic nature or natural ways!

which makes us united in many many ways!

India was not ready for independence!
by kallol paul on Oct 02, 2013 02:54 PM  | Hide replies

It lacked inherent strength hence it broke into India and Pakistan after the British were made to quit!

Every partition brings unity!

But for unity is the partition of land or property the only way?

And do we prosper through such partitions?

The British Industrialization and its strong democratic constitution which is evolving until yet, was one of the way of keeping India united in a military way or government way!

Good observations. The ideals of liberty, fraternity and equality as enshrined in the constitution is what really bonds a people together.
