Cleansing the BCCI
by Vinay Jain on Jun 01, 2013 04:56 PM

It is high time the political class is ousted from the Sports Bodies to cleanse the functioning. We have seen the scams/bungling in Badminton, Hockey, Athletics, Boxing, Wrestling, Shootin, Achery, Football, Olympics, Cricket etc. It is mirroring the functioning of these bodies with the way Governments (Central & States & Municipalities) are functioning with scams, bribes, corruption with no respite to the common man. As a first and all important step to be taken to improve governance of all sports bodies, a rule should be made that no Ministers/ MP/ MLA/ Corporators can become office bearer of these organisations. Moreover, there has to be limit on the tenure of the Chief/ President of the Organisation where he becomes ineligible for the third term in office. Unless the politicians are removed from Sports organisations they will continue to play their dirty politics and harm the sportsmen and the sporting fans of the nation.

It is an unfair comment. The Indian politicians have mastered in defending any crime by dragging in a comparable situation as to cover up their wrongs! The question is how and why the son-in-law was involved in the crime? He certainly enjoyed certain admonishable protection and it could not have been a better person than Srinivasan. Will Srini and his son-in-law volunteer to undergo Narco analysis test so that they could either escape the charges or both could land up in JAIL? Robert Vadara's case is to be dealt with separately and no one would support the idea of his easy escape because he belonged to Sonia clad! Mr.Shenoy should have on the other hand raised Vadara issue for strong action instead of going about it as a cover up of Srinivasn's case! For that reason, even Shenoy is showing partisan stand: for What? Has he got any particular interest in Srinivasan? Or is he wanting to divert the attention from trhe real issue? Both are bad for Shenoy, anyway!

A good point. The essay compares a Businessman with a Politician. Both are power centers. The former of money and wealth and the latter of the State power. In a democracy, this is given by definition of their respective roles.
The tone of the article slams the politicians while not slamming the businessman. Because of this, the article is biased. The Law is the same. The Businessman is no angel and the Politician not the only blackguard. There are rascals in both camps. And they ought to be exposed before the public. Surprisingly, the Game is controlled not by former sportsmen of the game but by outsiders, be they businessmen or politicians.
So if there is wrongdoing those responsible should be punished.
Srini's son in law was involved in gambling and not in spot fixing. There is nothing at least for now, that he induced the players to fix the matches.
It is becoming clear that there is power struggle and Srini- the businessman also knows his cards well.

Mr. Shenoy raised certain very pertinent questions. These thoughts are also shared by the common peoples. If bail can be granted for the influential political persons then why not for Mr.Gurunath. After all unless proven guilty in court he should not be held guilty. We also know how a very able administrator like Mr.Dalmiya, the person who actually made the game cricket & BCCI most economically strong and has immense contribution to BCCI had to go because he became enemy of some strong politicians. Why is it that all political peoples have gathered around BCCI? Why our ex cricketers and journalists are not in the board instead.

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY SRINIVASAN OR HIS SON IN LAW IS NOT PRETENDING TO HAVE PAIN IN THEIR CHEST. WHICH QUICKLY &COMMONLY HAPPENS TO A POLITICIAN WHEN COMES UNDER ANY KIND OF SCAM SCANNER. TRY, IT WILL BE SUCCESSFUL. IT IS 100% PROVEN METHOD AND THEREAFTER KEEP ON CLEANING THE PROOFS AGAINST YOU.

TVR articles are a class apart.

I was however saddened to see many commenters on this board not get it, and get into an offensive against the author itself

Well, never mind, please continue doing the good work. There are at least a few people down here who appreciate you

I always take care not to miss any of Sri.Shenoy's articles. He is one of the best among present day journalist in India. It is unfortunate to note that whoever has commented are less fortunate to understand the point he has raised.

Vishwanath, please remember in south also - Indian lives .This is a war between politician and Business man - All politician have ganged up against a businessman, why not business man are ganging up behind Srinivasan. If you remember Mr Advani Saying in Robert Vadara's case that why Arvind Kejriwal interfering in family matters- let Mr. Vadara Do his business. because given a chance to him become Prime minister. then some one from his side also ready to do strong business.
