by pradeep shetty on May 26, 2013 08:54 AM

some points are true, but dear gambling is not harmful, but long time gambling is really harmful for the gambler and the society..pls tell me u have written of matka etc, what do u know about Matka? have u ever observed the people in matka addas, all were once good ,but bcoz of gambling they lost everything & now they even rob & are ready to do all the unethical things...apart from gambling, habit of daru & drugs are free...also whole india does not bet, so dont blame everyone for the deeds that some do...also dont go into Mahabharat, coz seeing ur example my friend u dont know the reasons behind mahabharat betting...so dont write only for the sake of writing....

It is all humbug.

It is simply a game for collection of money for forthcoming election. No one is going to be punished. Some small person would be made a scapegoat. That would be the end. Just like Telgi and fake Stamp papers. The case of fake currency note has not even initiated for investigation at all, though fake currency notes were seized from Nationalized Banks' ATM.

Work load on police etc and fixing
by daniel thorat on May 25, 2013 09:32 PM

All said and done, the investigating agencies/police never, never catch all the criminals, culprits in India. So, whatever they do unearth, they must be allowed a free hand. Rapists, murderers and other criminals will not be lost sight of, but on that excuse, the law cannot let the IPL bosses and others go scot free, because they had cheated the whole nation. Their crime is actually as serious as being a traitor.

betting n fixing ate different
by ravi gambhir on May 25, 2013 08:09 PM

Problem is not betting. Problem is efforts of some bookies to fix things up to ensure they win huge amounts. Problem is fixing n not betting.

Match fixing
by MUTUM RANJIT SINGH on May 25, 2013 07:46 PM

I think cbi should not poked nose in the so called match fixing of cricket in ipl.Rather it is not complete match fixing also. Some of the players do some mischiefs for personal financial gain only, but is has not affected the overall performance of the team. It is the question of team owner to look the matter seriously. Untill and unless team owner complains of such happenings, why should cbi/police come into the picture. It is the duty of bcci to punish or dropped outsuch players with financial penalty.

Different point of view

The author forgot that the reason gambling, consuming ghutka/alcohol(varying with time and place) or buying carnal pleasure(with some exceptions) and many more similar crimes are made illegal to not exactly protect others but to protect the concerned individual, his dependants and loved ones. This is the exact same reason for which attempt to suicide also is made a crime.

Okay. Now about this gambling. fixing and all this hullah gullah going-on with respect to IPL. This is nothing but diversionary tactics being adopted by Delhi police to redeem their image in the public opinion and pacify their political masters for their failures in regard to providing safety for the citizens. IMO, the police force itself is a menace to the society and reforms are needed on immediate basis in the larger interests of the society. The police force do not believe in law or morality. They force and urge law abiding citizens to perform crimes to fulfill their own objectives thereby actually spreading a very wrong message in our society. The police in our country is nothing but a bunch of uneducated thugs and criminals. The bottomline is, this whole IPL betting/fixing thamasha is just to prove that the police are doing their work. This is a simply coverup of the inefficiency of the police force and to divert people's attention from the growing concern about lack of safety for the citizens.

stoopid waste of time
by Vineet Nagar on May 25, 2013 06:18 PM

Well written article. It is all waste of Police and court time when more pressing issues are involved. What people called smuggling in the past was just a trading instinct of people who saw an opportunity to bypass the high import taxes. It is human nature.

some people want to gamble with their own money - so where is the problem. If every thing will be done openly there will be no more fixing as all this operation should be given to UK based betting companies like Ladbrokes that have experience running betting operations. Never live to Indians because Indian Business people by nature are corrupt and dishonest people.
