Yes the 1969 riots were more horrendous than the 2002 riots. I had read that during that time there was President's rule and in another report I had read Hiten Desai was the Chief Minister( as mentioned by Col.Athale) during that time and Indira Gandhi had engineered the riot to discredit Hiten Desai who belonged to the Morarji Desai camp after the Congress party split again engineered by Indira Gandhi to bring Gujarat under her control. If the latter story is correct then there cannot be a more heinous act. As mentioned by Col.Athale there was no TV media in 1969 particularly the secular English ones which have kept up the relentless tirade against Narendra Modi even after 10 years.

BJP in NDA govt was good and did very well but lost 2004 elections due to bad marketing with slogans like India Shinning etc. However, current BJP is filled with looters (exBJP president, BJP leaders from Karnataka) and people who like divisive politics. Moreover there is no comparison between great orator Vajpayee and state leaders like NM. Vajpayee was in national politics long before become PM whereas NM is unknown outside Gujarat. BJP with its head strong policies such as supporting separatism in states such as AP to increase its presence (by divide and rule) and announcing NM, whose international reputation is only next to Saddam, as the PM candidate, it has long way to go before forming government at the centre. I was strong supporter of BJP during NDA govt. and felt very bad when it lost in 2004 elections but I am feeling sad now to think that I supported once this party.

BJP has no presence in hindu majority Bay of Bengal belt (WB, Orissa, AP and TN), which has 145 MP seats. NM belongs to BJP so opposing NM/BJP has nothing to do with any religion. In BJP lost very badly in 2004 elections with India shining slogan. It will lose badly in 2014 elections if it thinks like you that only non-hindus oppose BJP.

India economy changed by making US from our foe to friend. Even NM could achieve what he achieved in Gujarat because of economic liberalisation introduced by PVN/MMS. So you need to be smart to convert foe to friend and blind hat-rate will be no use in changing foe to friend. BJP feeds on religion and regional tensions and hence it has no ability to convert foes to friends.
