Are you done? You have some confidence in India's stats (as reported & collected by the super efficient govt.)

Population of these countries is only a few lacs, so this statistics is useless. Talk in terms of % percentage.

The stats are misleading as there is another statistic that needs to be applied - THE RATE OF REPORTING SEXUAL OFFENCES - which would totally skew the numbers against India. Also what constitutes a rape is different in different countries. You cannot compare these figures as absolutes.
There is another angle as well. year on year statistics show that rapes have increased by 20% in the last 4 years in India overall. This is shameful. Even our money doesn't grow at that rate.
There would be a huge amount of rape cases being reported in countries where the women enjoy a good social standing , where the legal system is strong and where the police is respected. That is what you see in the statistics.
India also unfortunately has community and religion based rapes, where entire villages parade a woman naked around the village. You can jog your memory and see that this does not happen in developed countries.
Let us not get defensive about it and close the debate. Let's understand our failings and try to resolve them at a national level. It is in the interest of not just you and me, but our children as well. We have to build a better society for them.

You are comparing India with countries where there is no stigma attached to reporting rape!
If reporting rape in India was not stigmatized, the actual number of rapes would be much, much worse!
India is a country of 5 3 x u a l l y frustrated men who try every possible trick in the book to do everything from groping a woman to brutally raping them!
So take the chill pill and hang your head in shame if you are familiar with the concept of shame!

This is just a survey based on questionnaire and we all know how proud Mumbaites are! People have high level of tolerance for pollution, population, crime etc in Mumbai, except when it comes to outsiders. Delhi and Mumbai are not all that different when it comes to facts. Both rank high in rapes - for Delhi it is 2 rapes per day and Mumbai it is 1 per day. Whereas Kolkatta the safest metro has an occurrence of 1 in 10 days! Now the famous argument that certain cities report honestly while others don't, doesn't cut much ice. Kolkata girls would have the same feeling of honor as any other! Places like Chennai raise a hue and cry over one acid incident, whereas murders are pretty routine in Mum-Del. Mumbai also records high rates of murders than Delhi, both above and underground. So if the average Mumbaikar still feels safe, more power to them!! If only facts can be changed by perception!!

If comparison is only Delhi- Mum, but this article compares all metros! Difference between Del-Mum is "unees-bees". Even in "conservative" Chennai you can see girls traveling alone at 3am trains. Only metro that can genuinely say it's safe is the so-called backward- Kolkata.
Delhi Police Reports to Central Government, their promotions depend on how much salam they make to central govt babus.
Sheila dixit has to be loyal to gandhi family to be appointed CM again. She does not have to perform to people expectations. She does not have any pride in doing work. See the CWG scam.
But why delhi people keep on electing her?
In Short Delhi is for Babu's, People are expendable
Re: Why Delhi
by BGK on Feb 27, 2013 09:13 PM
Because Delhi people pride themselves in taking candle-light vigils for every Jessica, Nirbhaya etc. And after clearing conscience they'd forget it by election time! Typical higher middle class mentality. Thankfully in other cities this proportion is lower and so you have more real action taken.
