Even before charges against Devjani are proved the news paper, The Washington Post, reported "India is siding with a woman who was in the wrong – who lied, paid her help poorly and now is brazen enough to claim that she should not be treated like a criminal,".It is a proof of vindictiveness of the Paper against Indian Consulate officer. The democracy of USA begins and ends within the barrier of racism is still continuing. The Americans will have to learn from India how to treat an alleged offender till justice is delivered.

What about your Racism? Supporting the Corrupt and preventing the law taking it's course?
If Divyani has done wrong she should be punished but not the way American government has treated her. Firstly it should be checked whether the salary given to nanny by her or agreed by Indian government. Even Preet Bharara should not overact to take the matter suddenly to an extent where it will be humiliation to our Indian diplomats. Even Indian government should not give extra facilities just for one of the foreign country as VIP treatment and trreat others at low esteem. If US government is treating Indians without following Vienna convention, Indian government should not over extend VIP treatments and not loosen the Indian law for certain personalities.

how come the applicant (the maid) is innocent and only Devyani is guilty???? the maid voluntarily lied during the visa interview, she should have confessed then only that she has been taught to tell how to reply!!!

Devyani needs to be tried for commiting unethical practice in India.
That being said, there is no connection between that and the maid's case. IF the maid was not paid as promised before initiating her visa or mistreated , then the maid is not guilty. Else, the maid is just as guilty as the consular
Can anyone define overraction? The US media in question here is no one but indian migrants only. Just wanted to secure their green cards. It is unfortunate that many people here are appreciating American Govt's action here. But look at American media, they back their government unconditionally even when one of the governement official had severly involved in killing 2 people in lahore. All in all we all are pro-america becuase one day or the other we wanted to be slaves of america
If she has done wrong she needs to be punished.Same way if an American citizens in India do wrong they have to be punished as per the laws of India. Problem is Indian Govt doesnot have guts to do that... That is really a shame.. There should be nothing like VIPs.. In India any one with remotest of connection hopes for VIP treatment.. If they are checking our ministers at airport, What is wrong?? WRONG IS that we are not checking their officials at Indian airport...

I agree. She needs to be punished and if the maid is found guilty of just plain greed, she needs to be punished as well. I feel both parties have been greedy and need to be punished.

Maid is not greedy. Devyani filed false visa application to keep her at slavely salary. Check the facts.

Also ,
The maid would never have been able to fly to US if the papers didn't indicate that she was to be paid $4500 a month. So from my vantage point the below might have happened.
The Consular needed domestic help , but cannot afford the US ones. She gets paid $4100 a month and hiring a US one would be like $2k a month. She Hatches a plan to get one from India. She finds someone and offers that person 30k a month and promises to take care of the maid's food /shelter/transportation /paper work etc.
The maid comes on board and finds that she can work illegaly outside the consulate on weekends and such. The consular refuses to allow this since this can expose the VISA fraaaud if the maid is caught. The maid absconds , finds a lawyer to file a case of underpay and rest is history.
If the Maid was Mistreated and/or not paid on agreed terms, then yes the consular is completely at fault. Its pretty evident that the consular commited vissaa fraaud. She needs to be dismissed from service and case of forgerrry initiated against her.Her paycheck of not being afford a maid cannot be a valid reason. There are plenty of people who cannot afford a Rolls Royce, it doesn't mean that they should be allowed to cheat to get one.

Yes, The Consular needs to be sacked and needs to be prosecuted in india for " visaa fraaud".
I don't know about slavery, but if the maid got 30k per month as promised in india before filing her application, its fair deal. I consider it as a fair deal since the maid's food/ shelter and transportation were taken care of. If those were not part of the 30k deal, then yes she was exploited
Like I said, we don't know if the maid was mistreated. She filed a case of underpay when compared to US levels. The chances of finding working class family in US that can afford a full scale nanny is almost 0. There is no way that the consular would have paid almost half her salary for domestic help.
In west law will be implemented strictly. When Italian marianes killed two Indians they enjoyed every freedom and we sent them back.US had send a notice to every constulate on previous month of February that minimum wage should be 9$ per hour for every worker in America. And my question to Qurshid is why we dont react like to Pakistan when two Indian soldiers where killed on Eid.Us is not Pakistan.I respect the way Rules r being implemented is US we have a system here for every Gov emp to pay taxes but have no system to bring back Mamamias and others black money we can be ashamed of ourself and the Political Gimmick at the time of Elections.

how can a government send people who are married to foreigners on consular and diplomatic missions? WOnt there be conflict of interest?
