Not everything a maid does can be taken as right because she is poor, this seems like a pre planned strategy on Maid's part to settle in USA. I f a case was already on against her in India how could US law ignore that? Moreover she was told what wages she will be paid, she agreed to that and now wants more money. Absolutely rubbish

India as a walk over: Due to Current Government 's inaction
by Gopi Menon on Dec 18, 2013 10:27 AM

Thanks to the election fear govt has done something in the khobragade affair.Otherwise, either in the blatant aggression across the border from China,Pakistan,or Sri Lanka, as well as its messy treatment of the Italian ship ,or other areas, the current government (because its highcommand is an alien)does not seem to be patriotic enough or give a "never bothered" image to other nations.

Kettle calling pot black tactics will not hold water and at fingertips people get info
Both nations should do some soul searching and find pragmatic solutions to the problem of under payment and cheating of laws on the subject

Let us step back and examine how did it all start
by Indu P on Dec 18, 2013 10:12 AM  | Hide replies

There are different views expressed on maid (became greedy), USA (showing high-handedness), need for domestic to Mrs. Khobragade etc. I have a basic question; is it correct on the part of Mrs. Khobragade to sign one contract / terms for operational purpose and another set of terms in the visa application? Mrs. Khobragade is part of the office that issues visas / OCI / PIO / passports on behalf of the Indian Government.
I am surprised at the justification to such action (e.g. diplomats cannot afford to pay the maids as per the USA labor laws and hence this deception) coming from the highly educated people / IFS qualified people. If this is the moral standard the officers at the Indian embassy carry in their heart/mind, IMHO they are not the right people to be in the overseas posting on behalf of India. We, the Indians can blame all we want on the USA, the maid, intentions of one and all in the universe against India etc. Unless we address this core issue, there will continue to be many more incidents that will dampen the image of India.

Ditto...Well said..the woman is a cheat and liar..Is that how we want to project our country to the world....?We have grown so accumsted to corruption, descrimination and political high handedness, that we find it difficult to accept when other's don't exactly agree with our lowly point of view...

The humiliation was well deserved in my view....May be it's the prayers of Kargil war heroes from whom she stole the apartments.

The woman is not a cheat and a liar but a very decent individual by all standards. Kindly do not denigrate a distinguished Indian doctor diplomat without knowing anything about her.

INDU P

The consular needs to be sacked and possible case of 420 against initiated in India.

The maid and her family needs to be prosecuted and an example made for all low grade indian citizens of what not to do. She needs to be imprisoned as well and her husband too for abetting in this national shame

Maid ill treatment
by anil nigam on Dec 18, 2013 09:25 AM  | Hide replies

Why were the husband and child taken into custody??? Will some NGO / Lawyer take up the case for illegal detention by the state ( Govt of India). Is it normal in case a athlete from Indian Contingent goes missing in a foreign land his/her family members are taken into custody. Disciplinary action should be initiated against the Police and compensation given. Devyani /consulate general should be hauled up for not informing the actual status to GOI. It is the IAS / IFS lobby working against a hapless domestic servent. Reaction ( Removing Barricades etc ) from GOI is childish. Why were the pandering to the Americans till date.

Husband is taken into custody since he is involved in this sham. Well, they cannot leave the kid alone and hence was probably taken into custody for safekeeping. The maid has shamed us with her acts of greed. She and her family needs to be prosecuted.

The consular too is responsible. She needs to be dismissed from service for the fraaaaud she committed and prosecuted in India

GOING TO DOGS
by Manoharan on Dec 18, 2013 09:23 AM  | Hide replies

This country is going to dogs under the present rulers. Take this case. Why this hype? Is it because she is a diplomat, daughter of a diplomat? We all know how the US Legal system work. It won't spare even their President. In US they don't arrest a person just based on doubt but firm proof. The crime booked for this diplomat lady is a serious crime in that country. Sp what is wrong in arresting her in front of the school or in front of bathroom? Why this drama? Is it because shinde and kobragade are from same place?

Not JokePal here, India should have consulate on cruise ship.

It would be much cheaper if India gets a small size cruise ship and have
consulate over the sea. People needing visas can be ferried to the
consulate over the sea. It would be no different from big cruise ship
that employs Asians, East Europeans, Africans and so on cruise ship at
cheaper rate compared to land. As sea recruitment/worker follow sea laws
and sea salary that are lower than land salary and they work per
stipulated ship laws. Indian consulate personal will have no visa issues
as they are over the sea. They can also have within the consulate
school over the ship. No issues of visa for school teachers. What more,
senior officers can travel to USA by ferry if they need to have meeting
or have their children attend university. One small cruise ship
consulate over New-York, another one over Florida and same for west
coast. And when there is sea storm, the consulate ship can move around
to avoid being hit. WHAT MORE JUST LIKE IT HAPPENS IN CRUISE INDUSTRY,
workers can return to India every year and replacement can arrive to
cover when they are gone. as time goes, India can also have larger cruise ship (can be nuclear powered) that can have much more such as soccer field, auditorium, etc.More than likely some smart people in USA would do it before India does as they read what we write.
