US has got 104 nuclear reactors which are currently running, India has 20. What does US do with those spent fuel rods etc. - same India or any other country would do!

Each system\organism needs energy to survive. Same way a country needs energy too... and for a nation of more than billion people, it needs lots of energy. If you compare with US population to reactors, we should be having about 500 reactors.

About 50-60 years ago, the western countries used to burn lots of coal to power their power stations. It was good for industry, but this made their citizens sick due to air pollution etc. London was actually black because of soot, could hardly see during day time. So, they all moved to nuclear energy, and not only did they become even richer but also healthier.

If India needs to ensure long lasting prosperity, it needs to commission lot of energy plants. Unfortunately, that is not in the interests of already established players. So, they have come up with green technology and request everyone to move to it. All good, but you have to use their technology. Not only it is not cost effective, there are lot of hazards involved. For a nation which is playing catch up, it is not just worth ignoring benefits of nuclear energy.

Ekalavyan Acharyan question is not of clean and efficient fuel. It is about what happens to spent fuel rods etc.
Well Ramachandra N few countries have a spent fuel processing facilities and UK is one of them,
Most European countries us UK facilities to process and make safe the fuel( it is still nearly 20% radio active after processing. which is then put into special flasks made of at lest 6inch thick lead inner and a foot thick outer made of dense compacted concrete.
It said that these Flasks re buried in ground about at least 100fet down, (No one is sure if that is really done government is not telling any one) where it should stay safe for at least 10000 yes ten thousand years and eventually become neutral and safe to handle.
No one at present knows if this is actually going to happen, only those who will be here 10000 years from now will be able to tell for sure, by then the world would have moved on or destroyed it self.
If You see a train with a white square sort of big block with Radio active sign on the side being transported on rail, that is the spent either spent fuel re processed or is being transported to processing facilities.
It is against the international law to move these Flask through cities and unescorted road transport.
