I agree with you to an extent that we shouldn't get "offended" by some of the things she said. But we should laugh at her ignorance.

Besides, there is one thing I got offended at that had nothing to do necessarily with India - she went into a small home in a slum (that was still well better than many other homes in the area, and had a very stable and loving family), and started talking in front of them, in their home, about how they were living in poverty. It's just bad manners.

And they decided to use English subtitles even when the father and daughter of the house (especially the daughter) spoke fairly fluent English. If you had listened to what she said (please watch it on Youtube if you can), then you'll agree that she was being quite rude to that family, and had a shallow notion of pity that we honestly don't need even if we do need to improve our living conditions.

There are many shortcomings.
However eating with hand is no way uncivilized.

Standards of cleaniless
by such jano on Jul 25, 2012 12:18 AM

can not be compared between west and india. West will always found india just like a dustbin with stinking smell coming out of it.

Even the posh locations in india will have filth around some corner.

This is a fact and just that someone is stating that mean nothing.

Only think we can take from these it it reminds us that we need to focus on cleaniless as well, we need to change mindset of people, should get rid of habit of spitting and peeing in public places, thorwing our waste in others place etc.

cleaniless is a habbit and it will take years to cultivate that.

'wash their behinds'!

In general, even NRIs settled for long in cold countries do not wash their behinds, didn't you know?

Just talk to any NRI who has spent enough time in such countries to find out!

When they land in northern Europe or the colder regions of the US, Indian immigrants persist for some time with their practice of washing their behinds (with heated water, of course). But, with the passage of time and after they come to know and experience the convenience of using advanced toilet tissues (that come in a hundred varieties, many of which are treated with anti-bacterial agents and are called 'wet swipes' and do the job so well that using them would be as hygienic or even more hygienic than using water), they switch to these 'wipes'!

And the great majority of Indians back home are simply too poor and too lacking in facilities such as enough running water to use soap and simply finish the 'job' with just a mug or two of water, dont they?

And one can bet for certain that Oprah would know every bit of this series of facts! The World Sanitation Congress (that conducts detailed surveys about the state of sanitation in the different counties) has a very great deal to say each year about India!! And these reports also appear in various discourses of the UN regarding the 'Millennium Development Goals'! Awareness about the MDGs and the state of world poverty (and about the numerous indicators of poverty such as sanitation) is high among the westerners!

Y feel bad about it. We r so they surely say. If we irradicate CORRUPTION we can make others shut there mouths. It's really sham full thing about treating a girl r a woman in our country. Next is toilets. We where back word S I do agree before 6 decades but still even now we don't have any facility in villages. No water. It's really very astonishing being Indians to know all this some times. A politician spends 45 to 75 thousands for toilet seat but a poor cant even have a simple toilet worth of 450Rs. Such Shame to Us & we show off every where that we r very gr8 with our false prestigious gesture. Common guys let's make our country containing states of clean green cities. FOR THAT WE MUST IRADICATE CORRUPTION. IF NOT DONOT VOTE ANY PARTY TILL WE GET JLPB & RIGHT TO REJECT

Right to reject is good, but it should happen even after the candidate is elected, in order to ensure he is doing a right job...we should have right to reject voting every year...looking at the efficiency of the current political workers
