Only 4896 Electors elect President!!!
by true speaker on Jul 22, 2012 02:15 PM  | Hide replies

That’s where the actual problem lies. President should be elected directly from the common peoples, which will put end to Government instability, Innumerable political parties, Scams in voting and further Increase interest of peoples in democracy.

For getting long term and wholesome benefits this structure should be changed immediately

This procedure is followed in United States. The voters are educated. But, in India the corrupt/criminal/half-educated politicians take the advantage of mass illiteracy in India and getting elected time and again. During a tenure looting crores and crores of money from state's exchequers; the tax paid by common people. How can you change the ball game. You need a Ram Mohan Roy or Subhash Bose or Bhagat Singh to settle the score and send all corrupt/criminal politicians/govt officers & employees behind the bar.

Good work by Zail Sing
by Manjunath on Jul 22, 2012 11:21 AM

Author disgraced zail singh by forgetting famous postal bill which he indirectly declined signing the bill by sitting over, otherwise it would have been another dictatorship by Rajiv.

The President
by sarjit saharan on Jul 22, 2012 10:47 AM

Thanx Mr Shenoy for your frank opinion.I am with you because a frank opinion is better than a false or no opinion. Criticizing a wrong done by someone is not bad. It will be bad if other does not learn from his mistake. And I hope Mr Panab Mukherjee will give no chance to others. He take decision what his heart will and his such decision will be respected.

Not thus
by Ashok Jairath on Jul 22, 2012 08:05 AM  | Hide replies

Dear Mr Shenoy
branding a President as worst speaks poorly about you ... you may have your own evaluations about people and that goes fine with everyone but use of such words on a public forum only tells me that you have failed to imbibe values ... I am no fan of any politician but would refrain from using such expression for a person who has held the highest office in the country ... I feel sorry for writing this note about you ... and indeed will overlook whatever comes from you in future ...

We Indian have an illusion and that to a myopic illusion... We hardly know anything about democracy and democratic institutions.. but we in civil life try to behave as we are philosopher, scholar & visionary n champion of Democracy..

But the fact remains .. we indians hardly know about democracy..

In India democracy means voting in election.. and thats all.. and nothing beyond this...

But the fact is.. a President is at par with a 4th class peon.. all having equal status.. and lower to democrats.. i.e. citizens..

So, If a peon doesn't deliver to the post he is heading.. he is worth condemn.. so it be a Peon or President of Republic.

The authority & respect is to the Position and not the person.. But a person who is heading the post is worth praise or condemn..

The person is not respectible by virtue of position but by his action..

Mr. Ahmed, Gyani or Ms. Patil are no exception to this rule..

Mr Ashok Jairath, your words speak poorly of your own maturity. He is expressing an opinion and has every right to. Millions of us think that the PM, President, Speaker etc are MERE SERVANTS OF THE PEOPLE.

As such, they should respect the CITIZENS and accept the brickbats that are thrown at them by the CITIZENS with HUMILITY.

If they are not prepared to do so and want to behave like MASTERS or RULERS or HIGH-AND-MIGHTY, they should resign.

All Indians have a right to treat these people like SERVANTS because this is what they are. We are paying their salaries.

PRESENT DAY POLITICS AND WOULD BE PRESIDENT OF INDIA
by nkgupta on Jul 22, 2012 07:39 AM

The country is again heading towards the era of pre emergency which was imposed in the year 1975 to protect rule of a family by first citizen of country at that time without any logic. on the other hand no clearance or explanation is offered by the concerned ministers to the countrymen in the matter of charges of curruption (with proofs) preferred by TEAM ANNA. Let the would be president bear the torch to clean up the country from rampant curruption, save and except himself, as he himself will not like to hold enquiry in the charges levelled against him.

Pranabda going for the highest post is ok.
by kallol paul on Jul 22, 2012 05:29 AM

Since he is a high caste Bramhin, with all the bad qualities associated with the dogma of caste ism beliefs.

I hope going for this highest post for this high caste man will be comfortable enough for him so that he can relax, explore , learn, and express himself freely as to his true self.

After all arrogance and ignorance are two sides of same coin. The president post way beyond these terms or coinage of any kind.

Best of Luck to him.I know he will improve as more he relaxs himself.

The saga of Krishna Menon's elections
by palanki narayana on Jul 21, 2012 10:56 AM  | Hide replies

Krishna Menon was the undisputed king of the North Bombay constituency until the demarcation. His massive win over the veteran J.B.Kripalani was historic. The election was fought on the issue of whether Krishna Menon was a "crypto-communist".His two subsequent losses were mainly due to the efforts of S.K.Patil who was rooting for a "son of the soil".In all the three elections, the writings in the tabloid Blitz could only be described as rabid.Kripalani was called "loony".After Kripalani's defeat,an entire issue of Blitz was devoted to Kripalani's "shava yatra". In the contest against Barve (whom Blitz described as a tailor's dummy),Blitz published news that Menon has won, even before the polling concluded. The editor of Blitz,R.K.Karanjia was called to Lok Sabha and officially reprimanded, for his scurrilous writings against Kripalani. After Menon lost against Barve's sister,Krisna Menon was rehabilitated in Midnapore, which had a sizeable labour force of Telugu migrants with communist sympathies. After this last battle Menon faded away from the political scene.

Past Presidents
by palanki narayana on Jul 21, 2012 10:35 AM

Fakruddin Ali Ahmed had done immense damage to the Indian state by encouraging illegal immigration of East Pakistani muslims in order to enlarge his vote bank.
Zail Singh was urged by P.C.Alexander to swear in Rajiv Gandhi as Prime Minister (read Alexander's autobiography, first chapter).Later Zail Singh found it expedient to claim that the idea was his own.
