Why squabble over religion?
by Jai Babu Neo on Jan 21, 2012 11:28 AM  | Hide replies

Taslima's poem Mondir-Mosjid translated

Let the pavilions of religion be ground to bits,
let the bricks of temples, mosques, guruduaras, churches be burned in blind fire,
and upon those heaps of destruction
let lovely flower gardens grow, spreading their fragrance.
let children's schools and study halls grow.

For the welfare of humanity,
now let prayer halls be turned into hospitals, orphanages, universities,
Now let prayer halls become academies of art, fine art centers, scientific research institutes.
Now let prayer halls be turned to golden rice fields
in the radiant dawn,
Open fields, rivers, restless seas.

From now on, let religion's other name be humanity.

All what the sabre rattling on this issue by self styled defenders and leaders of India's Mus1im community will do, is ensuring that more people READ, DISCUSS & BUY copies of the Satanic Verses or books of Taslima Nasreen, etc!

Is it not self-defeating and especially coming just a few days after the lunatic Deobandis issued a FARTWA prohibiting Yoga???

When anyone in the world can access hardc0re p0rnography over the Net, downloading Satanic Verses or Lajja is a piece of cake!

Govts are secular but the political parties running the government are practicing VOTEBANK politics and competitive communalism!

Sadly, we Indians are amongst the most corrupt, immoral, bigoted and divided societies in the world. Indians discriminate on the basis of caste, colour, religion, gender, subcaste and even dietary preferences. Our politicians have perfected & patented ways to maintain the status-quo by creating caste or religious community based VOTEBANKS and this suits their Divide & Rule policy!

What we have today is Competitive Communal Appeasement and Competitive Votebank politics. Look at how the Congress, SP, RJD, MIM, etc are salivating for the "Mus1im" vote while the BJP, Shiv Sena, etc are looking to consolidate the "Hindu" vote, Mayawati the "Dalit" vote, Raj Thakeray is looking for the "Marathi" vote, TRS looking for the "Telengana" vote, etc! Where are the "INDIANS" amongst us?

Yes I have read the book cover to cover...It is purely a fictional fantasy where the prophet appears in a dream sequence. It is not a historical account or any thing. By your definition a book like "The Da Vinci Code" is much more damaging to the bible. As usual muzzies are living in the middle ages and our politicians want to keep it that way.

WRITERS should have complete freedom to express feelings..authors like rushdie and taslima cannot express their views because of the narrow mentality of hardliners who seem to be influencing the majority

do not pull the cong govt into all this mess.
u ppl have a habit of blaming cong at the drop of the hat.
rushdie has chosen not to visit for his personal reasons.

Also no political party wants to besmirch its secular credentials by acting in a way that would alienate certain sections of the society, especially keeping in mind the elections that r round the corner.

Ironically the logic of providing reservations to so called backward classes is that they were suppressed by upper castes. But when it comes to muzzies a different logic is applied to accommodate them in quota. But one logic that still holds good seems to be "vote bank".

One is getting quota by being suppressed. Other gets quota for suppressing. Strange.
