Instead of striving for records of doubtful real value the schools should take an interest to see if the kids are properly fed or no and let the parents take care of the mumbo jumbo part.

Surya Namaskar is an exercise routine good for the body and is not a religious activity in the narrow way you seem to think. Going by your own logic, why should the school take care of the student's feeding needs? Is that not the parents' responsibility too? Narrow-minded thinking such as your's is Western and semitic in origin and is what in reality creates social divisions.
In India, we assimiliated everything that was good and did not stop to think of it as alien.

n fact the Surya Namaskar exercise is good for health, every position (total 12) of surya Namaskar is a diff. yogasan & these 12 yogasanas performed in a particular sequence will be greatly helpful for the human health is accepted worldwide. This sequence of 12 asanas (i.e 'Surya Namaskarar') is more beneficial if done in the early morning (i.e. shortly after the sunrise). So my dear M friends theres no question of Idol worship arises, don't get misunderstood by the word 'Namaskar'. The Sun isn't an Idol, its a planet (Like u people worship the Moon in the day of Eid. I have myself observed many M*uslims in Singpore, Indonesia & Malasia performing the Surya namaskar, various yogasanas & even chanting 'Om' during the Pranayam exercise, still they are Muslims they are not Hindus, so why r u trying to create unnecessary tension here? I once again request u to not to attach any religious label to the Indian style of exercises, be liberal be Secular & take the fatwa back or ignore it.

well said Prasad, but there are certain people in all the communities, they create tension and problems to the community in whole as they are doing such things for their survival.. Unless they create problems and confusion among people how can they survive? AS they dont have any work other than this.. They forget that on birth everybody is same and we dont bring anything to this universe we arrive naked and go to heaven also naked.. all are same human beings..
