free speech

riots and terror existed loooooong before twitter and facebook. ppl who want to spread hatred, will spread hatred no matter what. Atleast, they can track people who spread hatred...be it hindu, muslim or christian - online.

if the Congress GOI had taken the bull by its horns, situation wouldn't have escalated to this level.

Now, since they know that they can't bell the cat anymore, they are simply blaming free speech, facebook, twitter, and other irrelevant things to divert people's attention from the fact that they have created a monstrous mess and have no clue as to how they can undo it.

In this era of social media....GOI cannot hide anything nor it can bribe or gag ordinary citizens, the way they have made News Channels their loyal pets.

But do you remember when Kabil Sibal proposed control over these same (anti)social media, all the TV and print journos have cried foul loud. Is it not an iron that these same journos sing a different tune now?

Freedom of speech
by LettertoEditor on Aug 23, 2012 06:41 PM

Freedom of speech is a myth. Not even US allows freedom of speech and opposes persons who tell truth(take julian assange case of just showing truth and being persecuted)The world has a long way to go may be another 10k years before we reach the stage of true freedom of speech and not face persecution by powers. Yes freedom of speech has definetly improved because of medium like internet, facebook and twitter but still not reached the level desired and dreamed by Gandhi, Mandela etc. That will not happen for another 1000 generations to reach the level of true freedom of speech.
And yes people will misuse when you are given liberty(even minimal) like the fear created by sms and messages

what has the written media done ??

most often the stories we read here are an excuse of news items and more of state propaganda machinery

also which sites are you talking of ?? does the govt have any idea about whats going on by the citizens of this state who belong to muslim community

just check a few facebook accounts and you will see thousands of morphed pictures false tales of torture of muslims used as propaganda material

btw who is doing propaganda against gujarat ? i dont think thats pakistan

the media is cleverly projecting this as a case of indian govt vs some foreign websites who are not yielding. Actually this is the indian govt vs social media users who have found a voice against the corrupt govt and corrupt media.
Crooked govt crooked steps

Just check the comments section under your article. There are so many hateful statements. By your own yardstick, rediff should be banned and you must be arrested and prosecuted.

That apart, the omens are clear. India is heading towards a totalitarian government like China. And this guy, the true con-gress stooge is finding excuses to strangle any and everybody who dares speak against the corrupt regime.
Azad maidan is only an excuse
