Internet and social media provide an instant meeans to share ones opinion or news to alrge number of people across the world. It is also a strong media to influence public opinion on important issues. privacy and anonymity provides much needed protection from state sponsored and communal violence. Freedom of speech should be protected at all cost. Everybody should have the right to post facts, news and opinion on any topic of concern. However, the readers should be allowed to report abuse and if so reported, only then, the role of mediator should come in. Mediation before posting a view point, as is done by rediff, is clearly a violation of freedom of expression. Moreover, the mediator be allowed to step in only if a certain number of complaints have been received against a particular post or tweet. By subjecting each post Rediff to mediator before publishing, Rediff is allowing the mediator bias to creep in which is highly objectionable.

Very true. These are just tactics for deviating people's attention from real issues as the government does not dare to take the real issues head on and seek lasting solutions. They are just fooling around and bidding their time.
But do you remember when Kabil Sibal proposed control over these same (anti)social media, all the TV and print journos have cried foul loud. Is it not an iron that these same journos sing a different tune now?
All derogatory remarks about sudra, dalit and other community is contained in the almost all the hindu religious books including geeta. If really this government interested to protect the affected and depressed, it should ban all the books irrespective of its merit. Can any one substantiate any proof that these books cultivated any moral in the minds of any individual in india! However it created so much chaos and arrogance. Govt should be impartial towards its majority affected people.

indians cultivate dirt of tribels and outcasts todate. Constitution should be banned for creating so much social disharmony amongst various castes and continuing to strive for its prevalence for another century.

There are three types of deeds and people who do these deeds: Good, neutral and bad. The term Sudra has not been used for people doing bad deeds like robbery, theft, murder etc. Do u want our texts to eulogige these Sudras? The texts have been misinterpreted by vested interests to divide the Hindu community and draw a wedge between them. It was started by the British and followed by successive congress governments and later picked up parties like BSP. While education, liberalisation and economic development have acted as progresive forces to obliterate caste distinctions, the vested interests are doing their best to preseve them by prepetuating and enlarging the scope of reservations in the name of positive discrimination even after 65 years of independence and with active and effective judicairy. Other than reservations, there is no incentive for a person to mention his or her caste in today's highly mobile populations. In today's modern, mobile world it is almost impossible to identify a person's caste until and unless exposed by the person himself.
