violance against sikh community
by PVijayan Pillai on Aug 07, 2012 04:59 PM  | Hide replies

Our people hv suffered a lot in western countries, like USA, Britan, Australia etc. in the past/present also due to different reasons. It is very sad and I wish to say that we are with them in this difficult period of time.

Frankly I think there is more racism in India in particular and Asia in general than in the West.

Please do not simplify things so much just to convince your heart that what happened is justifiable. First thing, two wrongs don’t make a right. Secondly, India (and Asia, but since you picked on India) does NOT witness spurts of violence like this on a frequent and isolated basis. I’m excluding mass mob hysteria here such as a political leader using a mob for his cause but I do not hear frequent reports of churches being burnt or mosques being vandalized. Having said that, there are mob clashes such as the one in Assam which is a much more deep rooted issue. Indians (unlike the US, Pakistan or Bangladesh) have a much much higher tolerance to humanity than any other country, also remember India has 3.5 times the number of people than the US living in one-third the land mass and sharing more resources than any American can ever dream of sharing.

I remember watching in 1984 when the Indian Army was forced to go into the Golden Temple on orders from Indira Gandhi to fix her mistakes. The US flags are flying at half mast everywhere as a sign of respect. Did the Indian flag fly at half mast as a sign of respect for what happened?

A flag at half mast at most describes the formality of respect but not respect itself. America is a country with the highest degree of individual intolerance and a singularly biased country in terms of anything non-American. Ask citizens of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libia, Palestine, etc and you shall get your answer. India has a lot of negatives but religious intolerance certainly is not one of those but alas, brain washed semi-educated specimens like yourself will not understand this. You need to learn a bit of history (when you suggested that 'mistake by Indira Gandhi' in an earlier post) before embarking in such bland comments. Or else, try to muzzle yourself.

You are right in that racism happens everywhere. It happens all over in India. If Southies are subject to racist taunts based on skin color or language barrier, Northies when they come to south, are victims due to same language barrier or due to southies mistaking their general attitude for being aggressive and hostile.
In general, some self proclaimed alpha male does something wrong, and then all innocents associated with the alpha male(s) based on race/caste/religion are hit back at.

for me racism is generalisation or stereotying a community on basis of religion, caste, nationality or color. If our sportswomen from south are racially abused, it has to be condemned and guilty should be punished strongly.
but you cant say what goes around comes around. are you implying innocent sikhs in us gurudwara racially abused our sportwomen? if not, and you are suggesting that becoz some sikh youth committed crime, its alright to kill other sikhs, then, who thinks on that lines id also racist

To my knowledge, Indians have done nothing when Assam was in shambles few days ago, so not sure what they will do anyways regarding this incident. In any case, the law enforcement in US is more efficient than all our feeble protestations, and in this particular case, the killer has been shot down after all.

Americans similarly generalize that all Indians beat their wives, kill their daughters bla bla, courtesy what they are fed about India in their media.
No point in generalizing, many Americans know the difference between Sikh and Muzzie.

Well said. So what if the killer got it wrong, killing of innocents is never justified.
