Indian Army's greatest tragedy
by Manmohan Munshi on Apr 18, 2012 10:19 PM  | Hide replies

It is true the procurement of hardware is rather slow. Everybody wants to be cautious . But there is no point in painting a grim picture . Not very long time back our Army Chief declared that Indian army at present is capable of carrying out swift and surgical operations deep in Pakistan. Has he retraced from that statement

If you think Pakistan is Indias enemy - yo really CONFESS - that India is not worth a penny - Pakistan is no comparison to India it is a baby compared to India and your Congress "Yuvraj" is on record calling Pakistan '...That tiny piece of land...'! - and this tiny land has given india multiple sleepless nights!!!...Indias main Enemy is CHINA which has to be 'Deterred' and taught to respect India - and the Indian army is NO WHERE in that position.

Ordinary Indians?
by Pramod Sharma on Apr 18, 2012 10:12 PM  | Hide replies

Whatever the motive or purpose of your article, can you clarify who are ordinary Indians? Are you, Nitin Gokhale, a special Indian? And, in what way are you 'special'? It is utterly silly to use this terminology. Why can't you use the term 'Indians at large' or the 'people of India' to mean that those who are not dealing with the Army affairs in their day to day life.

Good Article

It is better problems to precipitate, so that long term solutions to problems can be found. Otherwise, things will continue to fester beneath the surface.

Good article, and a necessary one
by Vardhan Kondvikar on Apr 18, 2012 09:51 PM

Important as it is to expose problems, it's also equally important to show the other side of the story - in this case, the vast majority of the army, which is one of India's greatest institutions. Yes, there may be problems at the top, but EVERY country has those, and every army. Ours is an incredibly disciplined, committed outfit, with very little of the mil-industrial nexus you see in developed countries, and absolutely no desire to impose its will on civilians, and that's something to be very proud of.
If anything, the problems the media are highlighting right now are not the correct ones: the problems the army does need to address are those of human rights abuses.
Nevertheless, hats off every time to the Indian military - in a country where moronic arguing and disregarding the law seem to be constitutional rights, these guys stand for something.

Ah, no, the quote is "An army marches on its stomach", by Napoleon. Has no relevance here - it just refers to the fact that an army needs to be well supplied at all times, especially when it's marching forward during war :)

the ultimate disservice to Indian army
by Magadi Raghunath on Apr 18, 2012 07:13 PM

In the final analysis, it is we the people who do this disservice to our protectors. By electing unqualified, unscrupulous, uneducated (I don't mean degrees here), on basis of the religion, caste and creed of the candidate rather than credentials and even more inexcusably, by not voting at all. so, why look at the politicos and babus for this downfall, they are among us, including me and you.

Marvelous Write Up
by abhinav shukla on Apr 18, 2012 07:04 PM

Nitin

Really, you have done as stellar job by writing this piece of write up as the Indian Army has done till date. We should be grateful to the fact that Indian Army has always been apolitical throughout post independent India. But please never ever compare Indian Army with Pakistan Army. Later stands no where around Indian Army. Good keep doing good job. There are a few who carry out their job with utmost probity.

Army's Greatest Tragedy.
by sundara raghavan on Apr 18, 2012 07:01 PM

Well friends, this is indeed an article which speaks of reports of the media spoiling the very image of a common soldier, who guards our borders and sometimes dies while doing so.Let all of us take this opportunity in doing a little bit of introspection, and cleanse ourselves. That is what I feel, would be beneficial for us as well as for the country.

In these days when no one not even press takes up the true fight against politicians and vested interests I salute the writer and express my gratitude for coming out in open to say the truth. I know nothing will happen, it is the politician in the name of the people who will rule the roost. Any person or organisation coming in between him and his ego will bite the dust. Look today after travelling for years we have suddenly discovered that Adarsha society land was never of the Army and there was nothing about war widows. After waiting for years the SIT tells us people are mad actually no one was behind the massacre of Gujarat. Well in this chaos nice to read this article.
