Avery, US diplomat

"Indian economy will have to make a transition from outsourcing to innovation-intensive industries. Its multinationals will have to become truly global companies, with more business outside India than within."

that is the only goodpoint in the article. others are gossip. every true and conscious Indian knows it. the caste based state level and the national political managers purposefuuly fail to see it for electoral gain. it looks odd, but it is real and the fact.

INSTEAD OF RIDING ON BACK OF MONSTER and live in stress.

desh should be 90% tribal connected to nature, our dependence on videshi energy, jobs, tech, stress, etc will reduce. rest 10% rural-urban will be to protect the 90% tribal. Today it is all kickback, Dont worry about what bjp-congress cartel says in public. Airtel with tunju flavor for MMS backing to Tatas to Reliance to MMS, all back this cartel. To gain USA tacit gangup and money, opportunist Airtel now has wWalmart as it's backend in retail. Reliance to too investment from BP and Tatas have investment in angrezland. both sides are opportunist, Airtel/Reliance/etc will trample the videshi if given half a chance once they have all the know-how. And videshis will do the same when they have the market and babu/politicians in their hands.

IT IS ALL ABOUT CARTEL AND MAFIA MAKING, common indian are just for sweet talks and are their last priority.

Totally agree. Only innovation and manufacturing can put India on global map, no just doing this support. What happens when another country provides cheaper solution than India???

..it realized that continuing in Lanka was becoming costlier than foreseen, and that's not what India wanted any longer. This realization led to the humble decision to withdraw from Lanka. After all, there was no innocent party in the civil war, no matter which side India took, it was bound to get dirty blood on it's hands. It was a cursed war which should never have happened. No one won the war, and India wasn't going to get anything out of it either, not more than it already did: which was the chance to send a message that India is willing to fight to prove that it will no longer tolerate any more break-up of any nation in South Asia.

Window of opportunity!
by Abhik RayChaudhury on Apr 02, 2012 09:49 PM  | Hide replies

Civilian leaders of India have lost many other opportunities to safegurd the country but failed miserably, example of Sri Lanka is just one of them. Apart from Killing of a prime minister, about 2000 Indian soldiers laid down their lives in Sri Lanka!
Wherever the military does its job well, our rustic politicians make sure the effects of the gain are diluted by not taking any action.
While the whole world acknowledege China as a global power, India should be content to become a regional power someday. We are nobody's nightmare.

Patty, there you go again. How many years did it take for the LTTE to go? How many of your PMs and ministers were killed? How many countries helped your miserable forces? How many innocent civilians were killed in a scorched earth policy to get to the LTTE? Shame on you to be talking big here. Get a life, Patty.

Your analysis is childish. You need to read your history more carefully. Indian army moved in to Sri Lanka when the LTTE was very strong, however, they were pushed into the hills and were made to leave their strongholds like Jaffna. Life was getting back to normal in the plainlands when Premadasa decided to get Indian army out of his country. Big blunder. Premadasa was assasinated within a short time and LTTE was back in their game again.

The US diplomat is not entirely wrong!
by kunaal gaikwad on Apr 02, 2012 08:42 PM  | Hide replies

Be it Rajiv Gandhi's assasination or the multitude of terror attacks on India after that brutal event, our political guardians response has been standard - this will not be tolerated, culprits will be brought to justice and so on and so forth. This whimpering ends a few days after the clamour for action dies down and the event fades from public memory. What good are the military statistics when the enemies of our state take us for granted. Yes, the American diplomat is not entirely wrong. India should have captured Prabhakaran using the full force at its disposal after Rajiv Gandhi's murder. This would have made our enemies think before assaulting our country time and again.

Till a decade before, Indian bureaucrats didn't even have a proper desk or phone. Visit any public sector buildings, including Courts, Police stations and PSU units. You will see them begging for 100 bucks.

Do you think, these idiots two decades before have known the difference between state and country, caste and religion before talking about foreign policy.

Tomboy Rajiv Gandhi wanted Malls and super markets in Delhi as he married Sonia Gandhi and Europe and Italy have those, not that, India was capable to afford that.

Indirectly, both Rajiv Gandhi and Prabhakar did blunders in finishing the tasks partially. Either of them should have finished fully. None did, and hence Uncle Sam did it with intelligence cooperation from Uncle King as most of denizens in India are BLOOD-IMPLANTED or transported as slaves into India by them UNCONSIOUSLY.
