Where is the Urban sign in India? Every place looks like over grown villages with savages staging heroic shows like the bafoons in circus. No cleanliness, no proper infrastructure, no proper drainage... and we still dream about super power status. We are far far behind in all that and will NEVER EVER achieve that status.

Nice one...very true nobody is making demarcations in these cities to make it livable...in blore they wanted to chop down cubbon park so that ministers could live...tg that didnt happen but feel it will happen due to greed sooner or later
Urban growth in terms of population increase is one aspect. The other is what is the increase in urban population and particularly population increase in Cities due to (1) Migration from rural areas (2) Migration from other urban areas (3) expanssion of city as a result of more villages/areas on the outskirts/city periphery being merged with the city and (4) Intra city region migration. This will be of interest and would give direction on urban policy, growth, development, demographic distributions, transition so on and so forth.
I am pretty sure there live more than 1 crore people in Kanpur. Even Lucknow is very big as compared to Jaipur. Kanpur would be bigger than whole Gujrat.
