Mumbai
by mallaiah anchoori on Nov 09, 2011 05:24 PM

With its gushing number of settlers which number almost 1000 per day as per the statistics of 1992 itself,Mumbai continues to be the most populated city of India rendering many of the poor such incomers settling in slum areas which,in turn, gives rise to the biggest slum area- Dharavi in the world.Despite such a dense & large population, the beauty of this great city lies in its retention of the unique culture it developed since beginning-especially in terms of the punctual & almost continuous running of the suburban trains,BEST buses which mark its very life itself, work discipline, regularity in attendance in work places, traffic discipline & certainly comparatively a good law & order situation. The best part of the ever rising population of the city is that who ever enters it,within no time, adapts itself to the city's culture & proves as a typical Mumbite setting example to the future residents.Though,no doubt,at first, one who visits the city for the first time, gets aghast by seeing the teeming crowds every where only to get impressed & develop a liking for it later because of its unique & impressive life style turning even the most idle person into a workholic. We are yet to come across such a great city which levels all sorts of persons when they work together. Not only most populous,it is also the richest city in terms of wealth, work culture & values.Hats off to it.

i dont know about rural areas of mainland india, but in NE india, the child birth rate is actually less than 2.1 except for a particular community (2.1 is the rate for a stable population)

Need of India
by m prasad on Nov 09, 2011 03:57 PM  | Hide replies

In 60 years of independence, India could able to develop only 6 big cities and 2 more on the way. But this is not enough for our population.
We need atleast 20 cities to take care of our job and good living needs.
Also Central govt should have a different administrative method for these cities. Even in central govt, ther can be a metro minister for control.
Otherwise after some development, local people will claim it as their own city and trouble others.

Just by calling a place as city, does not make it one. What differentiates a city from a small town or village, in most other parts of the world, is the presence of infrastructure - roads, power, public transportation, access to facilities and the attitude of people. Usually the city dwellers are expected to be more broad-minded towards outsiders. Police is supposed to be smarter and efficient - when though often criminals are more cunning.

Frankly our cities are worse than villages. Less we talk about the crowded buses and trains in Mumbai, the better. The less we talk about the congested roads and frequent power cuts in Bangalore, the better. The less we talk about crime and water shortage in Delhi, the better. The less we talk about union-baaji and sloganeering in Kolkata, the better. The less we talk about crowded buses and unscruplous auto-drivers in Chennai, the better.

I am copy-pasting something from the census report of Kerala - know the facts and then comment:
"While the population of Hindus declined by 1.48% and Christians by 0.32% points respectively, the population of Muslims increased by 1.70 percentage points in the State since the last Census"

It is true for all states.

the old generation people always feel proudy. they had more respect for culture. look what gift they have given us. in train for 70 people. 2000 people travell. in western country even animals dont get this kind of treatment. yet old generation are so proud of culture they have given us.
its time to wake up. get harsh on producing children. also get harsh on building better infrastructure. educated and mature people need to unite every where. neta and govt will never do anything.

who are these netas and where has the govt come from? mars? let us face it. they are just people among us. let us accept that, as a society, we are totally failed. no doubt, our netas are greedy, but dont forget that we elect these very greedy netas? why? perhaps because their greed is no more than our own greed as a society. we dont see that our netas are scums, but we elect them because we think that they hate our neighbors - who belong to a different religion or caste - and believe it to be a good sign for us.
