scam UPA
by Vijayan TA on Apr 04, 2011 05:53 AM

CWG,2G money will never be recovered. There are more scams-NRGEa, govt procurements, etc.North politicians are as corrupt, inefficient oo.From a water surplus state SC& central Govt had ruined TN with no water for irrigation.farms have 1 crop & ruins rural. Will Govt create all India water Board to supply 3 crop water?Tamilians are the oldest humans with surviving language 5000, can survive.British Presidency was a self dependent unit & no conflict.Nehrus laguage policy divided us.Tamilians are thinkers. Is UPA honest, development oriented? It is scam.It has spent 60 lakh crores in5 years-has it solved any thing? No all went to scams. In TN you can see Govt acting. These benefits are copied in kerala,WB too.

I am a Tamilian and am proud of it. However, this is not the way to lift the poor or make TN better. My first hand experiences show that all that the freebies have achieved to make the poor lazy and not worry about much, even their children’s future. Look at the statistics of how the education of the poor has improved?. The number of children going to school from poor families has not increased. Yes, all the freebies have made many Tamilians who were labourers in Bangalore and other metros come back and have a happy life. But their living standard or their way of life has not changed. Go to any city in TN and you see municipal waste everywhere. Any bus stand in TN cities smells bad and are in utterly poor maintenance. The public buses in rural TN are deplorable. It is a pity that the money is being used to attract voters and not to improve the basic needs of the citizens.

As long as there are people who fall for these gimmicks, there will be politicians who will exploit us. For a change, why doesn't a politician give up his personal assets for these freebies and not the tax payers money. Educating (this does not mean passing Xth standard or being literate) the masses is the only way to make the public realize that we are just pawns in the hands of this non-sense politicians.

Amazing!

Fact: TN is top 3 revenue payee to Central govt., especially on a per capita basis.

We also know that a hell of a lot of industry ends up in TN. Hyundai, Nokia, Mahindra are just some examples. Locals like TVS, Ashok Leyland, IT Co.'s are growing like no tomorrow. Public sector like Avadi Tank factory also growing.

We know literacy, womens's rights, and Tamil overseas diaspora are huge so remittances also big.

We also know smuggling, gun running in Lanka, (port route) and corruption were and are there.

This poll freebie thing is also not new. So what's the reality.

Regional politics has brought boom to TN over a long time. Also possible that like Gujarat, the real agenda is development ... development .. development. Maybe the trickle down theory at work?

Just thinking out loud!

You are correct. TN is ahead in many ways compared to other states. All I am saying is that TN and Tamilians can be made much better the money spent on freebies is used for development. Example, use the money to improve our water supplies, roads, public transportation and most importantly primary and secondary educational institutions.

Generally people of TN are hardworking - but it is quite surprising that they have fallen for this fraudster MK.. they should know better than to believe him. He and his entire clan of many wives and many many grand children are looters ... can't they see it??
TN has progressed because of hardworking people ... but now they are being made lazy by freebees and NREGS (the poorer people do not want to work since they get NREGS money .. for not doing much... which is Congress formula for winning votes).

Media need to be clear when reporting about freebies
by Vijay Sam on Apr 04, 2011 12:30 AM  | Hide replies

I am happy that both the parties in Tamil Nadu have announced welfare schemes that could benefit the poor.

Unfortunate that our beloved media (mainly North Indian) and few educated friends do not understand one bit of these schemes. For your information none of these said to be freebies schemes are going to benefit any one who lives above poverty lines. It is only going to benefit the poorest of the poor.

It is easy for people you can afford to act as critics of this manifesto but not for the one's who actually need.

Latest survey indicates that the literacy rate in Tamil Nadu is more than 80%. This was achieved by schemes like free education, free meals for children, etc. If this wasn't started 30 years ago Tamil Nadu might now be like one of those under developed northern states.

I am sorry that I am not able to agree with you -- If TN has progressed, it is inspite of MK and his clan - not because of them. Which society in the world has progressed because of gifts?? Also, how does a TV and MIXIE help the poor?? Who will pay fo electricity and for the grain that needs to be put inside the MIXIE?? Is MK some kind of a god ( oh the rationalists of TN who light kuthuvilakku infront of the stone statues of their dead leaders!!)

EC should purchase the properties
by fightagaintevils on Apr 03, 2011 10:31 PM

Govt should enact a law, where EC can purchase the properties of contestants,if it makes economic sense for it. Because kalaignar TV is valued at 10 crore rupees.FOr that Kani borrowed 230 crore rupees from bawla according to her.similarly if jayas house is valued cheaply y EC should not pay that amount and buy them?

Rediff - its well clear you are an obsessed person with Dravidian Parties - who are much much better than many other parties in developing our state.

Please stop ridiculous and negative coverage about Tamil, Tamilians and Dravidians in general.

Please publish this message if you are impartial.

looting state coffers to bribe voters
by Bodh Ramdeo on Apr 02, 2011 08:18 PM

Apparently bribery is not a cognizable offence in this fetid land of filth and squalor.
It's one thing to promise that, if elected, their govt will bring down the prices of basics like gas, electricity, foodstuffs etc, or see that people have access to such basics, but it's quite another thing to dangle freebies like TVs, mixers, laptops etc, which will eventually be borne by the state treasury- they're looting the states coffers to bribe the voters.
Is this the much vaunted "democracy" that people here keeps boasting about? Stinks more like a fetid fish-market. And shouldn't the EC have something to say about this illegal practice?
