Kerala shows the way !
by piri on Apr 04, 2011 12:15 AM  | Hide replies

Two of its prosperous districts, viz, Pathanamthitta and Idukki have less people now than in 2001. The former has declined in population by 3.13 % while Idukki declined by 1.7 % !

Census directorate officials predict that Kerala state itself most probably will begin to have negative population growth from this decade on !

A far cry from the baby-manufacturing factories that other states have long become and still remain !!

Don't compare apples and oranges

Asia is home 63% of world population in 1700s and still its about 59% of world population now. From 1800-1950 European population grew and they migrated to new world(Americas, Australia etc). Asian population started growing after 1950s(after the end of colonialism) it will grow for another 50years. By then whole world popluation will stabilizes.
Asian population grew 7times(from 0.5 billion to 3.5 billion) between 1750 and 2000. During same period population of Europe Americas Australia grew 10times(from 0.18 billion to 1.87 billion). India always had 20-25% of Asia population. Asia and India's population will stabilized by 2050. Europeans took 150years to stabilize. Same is with India. If India economy improves, it can stabilize sooner than expected

Growing at a higher rate from a lower base is nothing to be surprised about.

If the European population in 1750 was just one-third of Asia's and it grew only 10 times compared to the 7 times by the Asian population, then it proves nothing. On the contrary, as the Asian population has grown at such a high rate despite limited resources and much more tyrannical regimes and the European population grew at a rate just slightly higher despite conquering and colonising new, virgin and very large resource rich lands, then it conclusively proves that Asians were very much 'productive' despite the odds while the Europeans increased in numbers owing to very strong reasons in favour of growth !

Per capita arable land in India is higher than China, Japana, South Korea, UK, Swtizer land, Netherlands, Blgium etc.

I am not trying to encourage population growth. I am just trying to understand. Population growth is the result of higher life span, lower infant-mortality rate. Population grows at higher rate for 2-3generagions when infant-motality rate goes down and life expectancty goes up. For eg: my grand mother had 8 siblings only 3 lived past 30years, my parents had 4 kids(all survived), me or none of my sibligs had more than 2kids. You see the trend. It takes couple of generations to realize all your kids survive and no need to have lots of kids.

Per capita arable land in India is NOT higher than in China !

Where did you get this information from ?

Much of India is actually desert or semi-arid land where agriculture is either difficult or downright impossible !

The whole of the Deccan is one big stretch of land that is poor for agriculture (save certain pockets). As far as China is concerned, it has the large Gobi desert but remember that China's territory is three times that of India and China has just 10 % more people than India. Which makes it obvious that China has much more arable land per capita than India has !

check india census website. UP, bihar, waste bengal, kerala population is exceed their land. Their population density is over 1200 (delhi is exception as a one of union territory), which is dangerous and burden for rest of states and people. there should be law to force people from these state to have only one kid per family

people from these states won't stop breeding kids like rats. when they failed to find jobs, they migrates to other state.

only option is to teach these people a lesson to have strike migration policy within state or kick them out of states and force them to live in their state. this is the way, they will feel the heat and control their population.

there are over 2crores people from these states living in other states which are not accountable.

Uttar Pradesh (29.7 million), Bihar (18.6 million), Maharashtra (12.8 million), Madhya Pradesh (10.5 million) and Rajasthan (10.5 million) constitute 52 per cent children in the age group of 0-6 years. i wonder how much from waste bengal

Keep on producing more cattles in the form of human flesh who would then have access to what an animal has: no potable water, no or left out food, no clothes............

Yes so the called world cup is there (only eight countries play seriously),....we are IT superpower but yes above all we are champions in producing more and more kids without even thinking what kind of future they would have....

marriage is a societal pressure along with producing kids without the reasoning where would they land up in future.........

a directionless country indeed.......

Suggest - condoms to be distributed for free at every hotel, bar, paanshop and offices. But knowing our politicians, they will create a huge budget for this and a condom scam will be born. Yes, we are directionless.

Why are you running all the way to theArabian deserts? Why don't you compare the growth rate ofMuslims in India, Pak and Bengla instead?

The population of Pak was 32 million in 1947 and now it is 180 million; more than 98% of Pakis areMuslims. Bengladesh is the most densely populated country in the world.

Although the rise in population has declined, in terms of absolute numbers population has increase almost by the same amount. rise in % has declined may be becoz we already have huge base. We should take immediate steps to curb the growth of population else we wont be able to survive as a nation
