UNO is becoming irrelevant for emerging powers like India. No reason why India should care so much whether it gets a seat or not in the Security Council. It is the personal interest of a few rather than the national interest of India.
It is more in India's national interest to move away from the zone of influence of international power bodies like the UNO.
Kissinger said that there is no permanent friend or permanent enemy only permanent interest.
US interests are totally different from that of India. USA's friends are India's staunch enemies: Pakistan and China. USA built up Pakistan's strength since 1956. USA made China a very rich country since 1972. USA has never transferred any technology to India or helped India to industrialise. USA sent ENRON to cheat India USA sent Union Carbide to kill Indian people. USA sent 7th Fleet to attack India during the Indo-Pak war in 1971.

US is like a mine of valuable minerals, whose owner is very unfriendly, selfish, and aggressive. It does not make sense for Indian to be unfriendly with them, because they have material, intellectual, and emotional things, that are very valuable and badly required by backward third world countries like India. Pakistanis are smart enough to woo the owner and get access to the minerals, while Indians are too narrow minded and self centered to be able to follow any nationally useful policy towards US.
Absence of unity also is India's strength because it prevents unanimity and vulnerability to foreign attack. India is intrinsically resistant to Bananisation by US, unlike Pakistan.
Not just India, Mr Talbott - America can never be a friend to any nation on this planet. America suffers from egoistic arrogance that best described by her so-called intellectual(?) advisor Kissinger in two sentences. His rewards for friends and as well enemies of America in his own words:
1) If you are an enemy of America, then you are in trouble. 2) If you are a friend of America, then you are in a more dangerous position.
his view of America:
"America has no permanent friends or enemies, only interests. Our interest in other countries is as markets or as sources of raw materials, goods and/or services."
With such a contempt look upon friends, it's shame on Americans to expect friendship with others.

US should not be frieds with India which is nothing but an international stooge. It was lead stooge of USSR during cold war, now INdia is stooge of ummah.
