Yes, Even I am shocked to read such wage predictions. It becomes meaningless if its predition is 2012-next million years. In the era of super computers and a very strong physics to explain , this news is going to come out as hoax only ultimately.
I remeber one of the US setellite was to fall some times in Feb 1979 and lots of incorrect news were floated in news medias. This was more ore less a known object within powers of US to even destroy in air but evertbody was made to be scared off.
Just ignore such predictions with an error of 1 billion years !!

I was about to comment on that exactly, and i saw your comments...lol... these reasearchers are useless fellows, they dont have anything else to do and gets funded by the govts across the globe. they always talk in millions of years, thousands of light years without any thing useful to the earthlings. all are theories only. utter nonsense.
Secondly, if the said supernova is 650 light years away, even if we were to witness it in 2011, it has already exploded 650 yrs back, and only that the light reaches the earth in 2011. if it appears, we all enjoy watching it. but i hate the title and the misleading predictions... all aaasssooollleeesss

The Journalist here is wrongly mentioning that Beatelgeuse is going to explode. But it has already exploded 640 years ago. Only that we will be able to see it now.

That is how it is said. When it is said that the star will explore in year Y, it means, as observed from Earth, it explodes in year Y. This means it actually exploded 640 years before Y.
First of all it is not a must that the explosion will be observed in 2011. As the article says, it may happen in 2011 or it may happen one million year from now. If it happens in 2011, this means it actually happened 640 years before 2011.

I do not buy it! 640 light years ago- none of us saw this phenomenon. All made up stories. If true, Cheesus is coming back- it is a sign in the sky.

Where are the 3 wise men?

Do you have any idea of this phenomenon ? You are just making some comments without having the faintest idea. It is the ninth brightest star in the night sky and the second brightest in the constellation of Orion.
The dying red super-giant star, called Betelgeuse, finally blows itself into oblivion.

The explosion will be so bright that even though the star in the Orion constellation is 640 light-years away, it will still turn night into day and appear like there are two suns in the sky for a few week.
One light year means - if light travels at the speed of 140,000 miles per second,if that be so convert it into hours, months and years - the distance is mind boggling) it is called one light year. The light from the Orion constellation has travelled 640 light years away.
And yes - whom do you mean as 'Cheesus' ? Amul Cheese?
Learn your English well, before commenting and also learn to spell 'Jesus' if you have meant that. Do not exhibit your ignorance in such web sites just by scribbling something in order to make some comment.
