Not sure, from where Anil got the info that both Nadhir Shah & Ahmed Shah Abdhali were from Afghan. As per many historical sources, both Nadhir Shah & Ahmed Shah Abdhali were from Persia ( [present Iraq ) but not from Afghanistan. Also, as per many historical sources, Marathas fought with Ahmed Shah Abdhali at Panipat in 1776 ( termed as 3rd Panipat war ) but not in 1761; they fought alone bcoz they did not get any support from other kings in the northern india ( what's new !!!!! )

It is fact most of the Indians kings of different province were un necessarily arrogant, selfish & didn't beleive in unity.Even in case of great Maharana Pratap all Rajputs were not united. Till now we are actually divided un necessarily in the name of region, caste, ethnic identity, language etc. etc. etc. If you dig deeper will find some thing ill is haunting all of us.
But see the ill destiny we still did n't learn from history. Most comments reflects clear cut differentiation on various ism. Come on brothers it is time to forget all bitterness & be united to save united India. CAN WE PLEASE DO THAT AT LEAST THIS TIME TO SAVE OUR BELOVED NATION.
We have lost the battle on all fronts n borders, to all neighbours & all alien countries, thanks due to Kangress which is hell bent on selling it away to amke a fast buck & vamoose.

At least fighting with elian is better than wait and watch...and SOuthies are like mosquitoes because you don't hear freedon fighter from South..all Mughals and other invadors were stopped at Maharashtra...I think this protected southines in history at least be greatful to this. And that is reason today you hear South india's largest ...biggest..because southies are happy in four state..
Cunning british historians never iconised 'HINDU' sentiments...hence words like 'Marathised' are prevalent.
Whole rule of so called HINDU Marathas was guided under a BHAGWA / Saffron flag....obviously the national flag of BHARAT in those times.
Political strategies, formations, coalitions could have been different as per the prevalent political needs but rulers from maharashtra rulers were always guiding the HINDU nation comparised of hindus, sikhs, rajputs...etc.
Hence the maratha kingdom is actually the HINDU kingdom first started by RAJA SHIVAJI.

Marathas called themselves Marathas, hence they are known as such. What you want ot call them is another matter. Don't blame the British on this one. What you are doing is actually historical revisionism.
indeed very awe inspiring. yes we all know that the marathas, mysoreans and the sikhs were the last to fall, not bcoz of lack of strength but bcoz of lack of unity. So have we learnt anything from that battle. As has been rightly mentioned, today we face not only a similiar situation on af-pak front but also on the eastern front. so my dear fellow indians (especially hndus) if we dont get our act together very soon, we, our women folk and our children will either be slaving for the invaders or be slghterd in some hindukush for sure. this is not just about blogging anymore, this is a sincere appeal to all our fellow indians. the situation is serious.

col. athale mentions a large muslim population around dillie who helped abdali's afghans against marathas. athale, like you and and subramaniam swami and millions others, talks about af-pak threat of modern day. and yet, nobody mentions terminating samjauta trains and lahore buses that bring millions of af-pakis who are settling across india in that general north india. it seems to me the indians love to talk their history in nth detail but can't think of how to address their current problems that stare them in the face. i brought this point to atahle ji, he has seems merrily unconcerned. so, what good is all this scholarship in history and military science? for the congress party more the af-paks come in better it is. so, it is obvious that modern india has worse chance of surviving after 2012 when t he the usa pulls out of the region than the 18th century marathas did. we can thank vajapayee for that, and now congress.
