Yes Islam has to reform. It's good to know Indian muslim women have come forward to fight for thier cause. Our constitution gives equality right to all, then why a muslim women in India be supressed by anyone.

As a matter of fact they have, if you were tto see the development of Islamic banking princilples and reconciling it with modern day trade has been one of the successes of Indian Muslim tehologians/economists. And islamic banking has indeed ocme of age.

On terrorism there was a fatwa of ulemas across the board who came out and condemned terror attacks, including 26/11. The perpetrators were also not allowed burial in muslim graveyards as well, should you remember.
Re: Re: Re: Reform

Agreed that Muslim women's issues are still not given priority, but cetainly that has changed in other Muslim countiries with attitudes changing, among ulemas also, with Muslim women receiving education, and improving the standards of the next gen. But ofcourse Muslims as a group are apprehensive in putting women out on the work force and that is not soemthing that they should follow lock stock and barrel like otrher communities, as that raises other issues such as child support etc. Things will improve, and hopefully the world will realize that Afghanistan is not the norm.

Terrorisnm will not vanish with some fatwas true, but why did terrorsim start. Would you introspect and when : 12th March 1993. So you are true that Muslims have taken to terror, but what was the alterantive: be harvested or live under intimidation? 6th Dec 1992, 6th Jan 1993, Guj. 2001. and recntly the HC veridct on Babr Masjid, which in crikceting terms would be considered an outrage! As per the beliefs of one side...that's pathetic coming from an instituiton that was until now considered above suspicion.

zxz, how many persons have got Nobel for Science from a population of over 1.5 billion so far??
Have you heard of Bank of Credit and Commerce International which vanished into thin air?? Is that what you call IslamicBanking? A Bank cannot survive without charging interest.
Even the GrameenBank ofBengladesh, hailed as one of the successStories of 20thCentury, charge heavyInterest from the b0rrowers.

BCCI was not an Islmaic bank, never claimed to be one. That's a misrepresentation if not a dishonest statement!

you may search the net on islamic banking and would find that it is the largest growth sector in banking. It also weathered the recession better than the conventional system.

The cost of success as you are measuring is incorrect. The societies that you consider as devloped have done so at an enormous price. Sure progress wise muslim societies are slow with 50% productive workforce, but look at the other side they still have the family structure intact, and will continue to do so as long as they do not emlate western cultural norms. That's why I said women in work place, when as a whole sociuety you decide to put that in place, then who looks after home? You earn a lot, and then in order to continue to intoxicate you, you are provided various avenues to spend, and then again consume..the cycle is voracious. Fisrt it is single mothers, then love childs, then same sex marriages, etra marital etc etc ...who knows where... There are alwuays two sides. Better to be slow and steady rather than in a hurry.

before commenting on other religion, find out what is ur religion. It could be either a stupid religion, or it could be a religion which preaches inequality or both
