Is it a supersonic or subsonic aircraft? How does it compare with the F-16s Pakistan got from USA?

It's a supersonic aircraft and doesn't compete in F-16 class which is a medium combat aircraft. They have plans to develop medium combat aircraft.

That plane will "fly" in another 30 years when F-16s will be visible only in museums.

Loot Congress aircraft!!
This Loot Congress Aircraft has taken about 30 years to build!! Amount of man power for 30 years must be more than a cost of a fleets of US best fighter planes. Finally we have bought engine from GE (US)
So Congress motto is Loot India!!

a country like america, having a fully functional aircraft manufacturing industry, having already mastered developing 3,3.5,4,4.5 gen aircraft. if they took 15 years to develop raptor.. if i am happy that we took only 30 years to build from scratch with our limited monetary resources. Even for us, the actual development work and the money to build the aircraft came in only into the 90s.. SO yeah we are good , this is a begining. I am not saying we are the best.. we are just good as of today.

what is indegenious about this plane?
by bmwmerc on Jan 10, 2011 11:58 PM  | Hide replies

the jet engine comes from US
the avionics come from Isreal
electronic warfare comes from Isreal
Ejection seats come from britain
armament come from russia
radar comes from Israel
design is copied from french rafeal

Most of the hi tech has come from foreign countries, i wonder what the HAL/DRDO have done since 1980's.

And our politicians must have also played a crucial part in delaying LCA by waiting to get kickbacks from foreign firms to supply parts.

do u think F16 and Sukois are entirely different. They do have common things sme advanced some old. Similarly LCA also may have components built or designed by other country and has some similarities. So what????

Even Boeing and Airbus source their components, even major components, from different parts of the world like Japan, UK and other countries. In this case, design etc remains in India and that's what matters.

Well done

Its great to know an Indian fighter kissing the skies. Many feel its not a good plane, but its not a bad fighter too. If it cant be used for offensive purpose, it can be used for defensive purpose with BVR missiles, and attack enemy troops that have already intruded into Indian soil during a war. It can also be used to train pilots as they may form a bridge between trainer jets and 4.5 or 5th gen fighters. This is a stepping stone for India to produce better products. One make use to it, if he wants too. He needs to think positively.

first step is always difficult. thereafter its easy.
next year we might come up with 6th generation aircraft like eurofighter,
it took 1000 yrs for man to make first aircraft ..so lets be positive..
also these should be sold to public. i mean stripped version of th aircraft...

And if you do not have any lampoonery and there is a war.
WHAT THEN, You are screwed aren't you.
Isn't isn't better to be prepared.
Ready to combat any enemy action, rather then starting to develop and make weapon at that particular moment.

it resembles old GNATS lookwise. I guess the the aircrafts have taken birth at least a quarter of a Century late.
