by MGR on Jan 10, 2011 06:45 PM

LCA has provided employment for Thousands, both in Government and Private sectors.
Similar programmes will help employment as well as IAF.
Govt should develop plenty of such Aircrafts.

A decade for 1 aircraft.
by Sanket Sahi on Jan 10, 2011 06:33 PM  | Hide replies

Mr. Manmohan Pyarelal Singhji, 10-14 years for one aircraft, sir in these last decades our friendly neighbours have developed, anti missile technology, nuclear submarines, nuclear powered aircraft carriers, Stealth bombers, excellent communication techniques, and u give us one aircraft, for which there is so much hype, Sirjee, this aircraft might have been very good 6-7 years back how will it tackle new age weapons, I know I know you are developing that too but when it comes to our army or airforce it will be another 10 years and we might be chinese by that time. Nihao.

Sanket, This aircraft took so long coz of sanction by US after 1998 Nuclear Tests.
Also, It was being tried for 1st time. Every thing was new.
The experience gained in Tejas will help INDIA in making future Aircrafts faster. One thing to Note, All the money spent on the project came back into Indian economy, so an Indeginisation is always better than import.

Having, said that,I agree with you It should have been done in a lesser time frame. Cost can still be beared not the time lag.

Digvijay All accepted but excuses cant get us to top, CHina was poorer to us in 1992, much more sanctions were on it for many n reasons which we all are aware. i m not being hypocrite or usual Indian type, the point is we have money & resources, why it still took so many years? God knows there may be a big scam in this also, as our top heads only think of money not country and history prooves we have been always killed by our own.

Very well said, indeed. The Chinese are capable of shooting down even our satellites. Let us entrust our weapons development programme to those who organised the Commonwealth Games keeping intact, of course, the principle of SC/ST reservation in everything they do.

Why can't we have???
by Tamil Arasan on Jan 10, 2011 06:30 PM  | Hide replies

See the efficiency and fame of our private sector companies...why can't we have the same efficiency in government sector??? Our private service sector is having all the multinational companies as their clients and most of them have achieved the highest standard of quality control in their respective industry...but look at our roads and other infrastructures maintained by our government it's one of the worst in the world, I feel all those people who are responsible for such inefficiency on government projects should be hanged including the minsters responsible for it...

It’s amazing to see the huge infrastructure of some of our IT and automobile companies, those people are also Indians then why can’t we have a same standards atleast in our Airports

looks good
by Dev on Jan 10, 2011 06:06 PM

it looks good . its an achievement. I cant comment on performance only time will tell,i guess.
one thing i can note is that the exterior looks gr8. is it copy or original?
thing is even if our desi guys could copy design like this we could be having our own Merc and BMW type cars here..which is NOT the case.ie,indian design cars are a mile behind.

but this aircraft design looks as good as best around (im not hugely knowledgeable on this though)

Long way to go!
by Rajendra Rao on Jan 10, 2011 05:58 PM  | Hide replies

American GE-F404 engine is not Indian. As long as India imports the engines, I do not see real accomplishment here. Not that India is not capable- but due to reservations, etc., not many bright people are employed in research and development, and India continues to import the most important component of a Plane, the engine, from outside.

Stop producing IT experts, and get back to basics of engineering.
