Now India should rely more or indigenous aircraft. They should start developing own fighter jets which would be cheaper and tactically India needs another 300-500 4.5 gen fighter planes to combat china.

blew it? do you know anything about End user license agreement? if they wud have bought the planes, they cudn't have used them against any NATO allies, including pakistan. what's the use?? and buying the jets which even their military doesn't buy. I think it's right. we are ordering transporter aircrafts and the relationship still remains. I think it's a bold move by the india.

Naresh Chandra what about Mig? this hypocrites bureaucrats will buy sub-standard Mig planes from Russia which even refuses to supply spare parts, but he will go and buy that because Russian will pay him crores of rupees even that it means killing 100s of pilots. I don't know what is good for IAF but Chandra is talking BS.

Maybe you don't know but MIGs are way old Jets and they are not given the right kind of maintenance they need. That is the reason why India is going for new jets, so that they can shun those decade old MIGs. Yeah the supply chain is not good, I agree and that's why India is not buying any more stuff from Russia. Sukhoi are top of the line jets and it is great to have them. Now, they are searching for other options and definitely USA cannot be trusted with its closeness to Pakistan. I might agree with you a little bit but saying that Chandra is talking BS is just plain absurd. What he is saying makes sense.

India bought Mig21's in 1970'S. They are almost out of service now!! Mig was developed by USSR. When soviet russia broke into different countries, almost all new countries had mig technology. India bought all substandard cheap parts for mig from ukraine, not russia. Now mig 21 will be phased out by 2013 with LCA's.

Outdated US aircraft
by Rahul Sen on May 01, 2011 12:12 AM  | Hide replies

Its a good thing that India has decided to stand up to lobbying and pressure tactics from the US...first these planes are like 30 yrs old...secondly Pak has f16s for more than a decade now...its time the US realised that supporting Pak for their interests has hurt them...and that too now when it hurts most. Obviously India needed a new aircraft, and the European one is advanced...Mig was good but thn China has Russian technology...so its best to go with a new European plane...neither China nor Pak in the foreseeable future will be able to get their hands on tht tech.
Till the US offers either th F22 or the F35 and tht too not a stripped down version...they can go and sell all they want to Pak. All th best

Totally agree with, except that the French Rafale is little better than the Eurofighter Typhoon. I hope the Indian Govt selects the Rafale.

IAF pilot's life is more important

Agreed, as long as money-under-table did not play a role. We all thought MMS is above corruption, but look what happened in the recent days. May be he is not corrupted by money himself, but he is corrupted by power enough to let his chelas loot the country.

US inspection law
by Sudheer Singh on Apr 30, 2011 07:46 AM

It is not clear whether the US inspection law which allows US to inspect where the items imported from US are used means one has to compromise on the secrecy. If not i think this is the reason ARMY has rejected it and i congrats them for this other wise govt of india whould have gone for US deal

Sir, what is there to be afraid of Italy and Israel ? Why so much fear and cowardice ? Why should any one think about silly things. What we want is defence with strong muscle. You dont see anything else. It is not favouring like a love affair. It is pure, cold strategic calculations. If there are back lashes be it .No problem. Congress had faced it with utmost stubbornness and stood fast after the delguge of disinformation that flowed after Indian bought Bofors after rejecting the French and others. Nothing happened. As of corrupt politicians, they have not come from sky. It is the people who elected them. Some reports in the media say that they were given money. Then who is corrupt? Politicians or public ? The middle class in India is a biggest hoax as on today ? they go whole hog with candles everywhere, but when it comes to observe simple honest practices it is nowahere to be seen. Chamchas are everywhere. Buracracy is no exception. One can see these chamchas in every government. Modi had chamchas working for him and they are in jail for killing people. Did they kill on their own? Did they have any thing personal against them ? No. They were chamchas and to please the wishes of their master they did it and are now facing the music. All those who have gone to jail recently are chamchas and they will not be spared. We Indians feel great in analysing thing from news reports. There are specialists out there doing this serious job.Thanks.

Let them backlash. I know Indians live better in India than emigrating to US. They even know that Indian economy is growing fast and its their need to come onto our feet now. Look at recent Obama's visit and David Cameron's trip!!They came to beg us!!
